Corporations are not Natural citizens

Original post made by dublinmike, Dublin, on Apr 20, 2012

Why the US Supreme Court would ever consider a business entity the same as human being, namely, you and me, has always been beyond common sense to me.

Corporations were designed to protect investors from libelous acts of their principles or partners. There was nothing about the original intent to treat this business entity as "people".

We need to tell the Supreme Court by various legislative acts that we will not tolerate Corporations to act beyond their ORIGINAL design.

Too bad no one else responded to your post, dublinmike. This is an important issue because it allows money to become the prime political power broker for the interests of special groups over the interests of the general welfare. It translates into a concentration of political power into the hands of organized elites and punishes those who do not or wish not to organize.

It is an important fight and will be difficult to win because game theory dictates that any organization that does not take advantage of the current rules will lose out both politically and economically. All the hypocrites will come out and rail against their favorite enemy, all the while benefiting from the very same rules. There is absolutely no reason for why the speech of union members, non-profit donors (e.g., health care providers and churches), and for-profit business's shareholders (e.g., CalSTRS and individuals) are to be valued more than another. They will all seek to protect this. Don't count on any type of organization to get behind this. The general welfare will lose out to special interests.

Yes, Stacey's right. The reason for the 5-4 decision with the 5 conservatives giving corporations more power as natural citizens was because greater corporate power is needed to offset the real culprits -- unions who hide behind free speech as they engage in their nefarious actions. Lefties lined up and "fought" against the ruling, but they really were just pretending.
