10% unemployment and Obama is spending $35,000 - $50,000 a week for his vacation?

Original post made by Pedro, Downtown, on Jul 30, 2009

When the president takes a vacation, some people are still unhappy. Though grossly less important than racial reconciliation and the future of health care in America, Obama, is also under fire for his choice of respite. The Daily Beast is reporting that the Obamas will be vacationing at a $20 million property known as Blue Heron Farm on Martha's Vineyard. With a price tag of $35,000-$50,000 a week, the Daily Beast says the first family will be paying market rent for the 28-acre farm that includes an apple orchard, private beach, swimming pool, basketball court, and golf tee.

My Friend Pedro,

Presidents go places, they take rest periods, they fly in a 747 to get there and their security detail cost multi millions.

NOTHING new! Bush went to Crawford constanly as well as the vineyard.

This has got to be the weakest NEWS I have heard so far!

America was burdened with a trillion in debt, entering office with a surplus, Bush was SPENDING tillions on a frivilous war!~

Taco:

the difference is that Obama campaigned promising change, and "no more of the same" yet so far.... well it looks like the same "politics as usual"

Change? I don't think so. Just the usual stuff we saw under Bush

I understand that the price tag quoted is very high for a vacation, and I know that our family has not taken a vacation in two years and will not be taking one this summer because of tight times. But I don't begrudge the president at all from taking time off at the beach with his girls, paying out of his own pocket, staying fairly close to D.C. if anything urgent arises, "buying American", and possibly saving the country some $$ in Secret Service coverage because it is in fact a private beach resort.
