Promises, promises: Obama tax pledge unrealistic

Original post made by I didn't vote for him!, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Jul 8, 2009

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama promised to fix health care and trim the federal budget deficit, all without raising taxes on anyone but the wealthiest Americans. It's a promise he's already broken and will likely have to break again. Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress have already increased tobacco taxes — which disproportionately hit the poor — to pay for extending health coverage to 4 million children in working low-income families.

Now, lawmakers are looking for more revenues to help pay for providing medical insurance to millions more who lack it at a projected cost of $1 trillion over the next decade.

The floated proposals include increasing taxes on alcohol, which could raise $62 billion over the next decade, and a new tax on sugary drinks such as soda, which could raise $52 billion.

Senate Democrats this week pretty much rejected a proposal by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., to tax health benefits, an idea that Obama repeatedly criticized during the presidential election campaign but has refused to take off the table.

Take a look at his poll numbers and this guy is going down in flames and unfortunately he is taking us with him. By the way, anybody know why he is on his latest boondoggle?

I would hardly call this "down in flames."

And as for his latest "boondoggle," I assume you are referring to his trip to Russia, where he was involved in discussions regarding the reduction of nuclear stockpiles. You ask my generation, this is important stuff.

Well done, Mr. President.

Just ask Republicans. Who is going to pay for the $750 Billion the gave to their wealthy banker friends at the country club? You guessed it, the taxpayer. At least Obama is giving some money to people who need it.

Just because someone needs something doesn't mean he or she DESERVES it. Especially when it's from the labor of someone who WORKS for a living.

You are right in your pseudonym: Welfare. That is what is destroying this country.

You can spell welfare. Can you spell Socialism?

Bush/McCain/Palin: Welfare for the rich (TARP, financial company bailouts)

Obama/Biden: Welfare for the needy.

Or libertarian: Welfare for no one.

Regulated capitalism is not socialism. You can keep up your scare tactics. but they are not working. I can spell w-e-l-f-a-r-e and s-o-c-i-a-l-i-s-m, but neither is spelled O-b-a-m-a.

It's interesting that every single thing the democrats try to do, the republicans go nuts. It's all about taxes and spending it seems?

What were you all thinking, in regard to Bush spending his entire presidency playing war games at a cost of many trillion in TAXPAYER dollars?? !!

Funny how the republican conservatives feel it's so darn important to be at war, spending trillions and killing hundreds of thousands of people, including woman and children. I hardy ever heard and republican conservatives say a word about that. All I ever heard was that we were "doing GOD's work" in Afghanistan and Iraq! Good Grief!!
Take a LOOK at the public opinion POLL in regard to these wars in the LINK below! It seems that the VAST MAJORITY of Americans don't feel that we have done any good overseas in these wars. Are we safer here at home? NO! And Bush neglected national security very badly here in the U.S. Did anyone read the article about the F.B.I. recently smuggling 10 bombs into federal buildings without a hitch?
In one case, they put all the bomb making materials in a brown paper bag, and that went through the security x-ray machine, NO PROBLEMA!
These wars have done NOTHING to keep us safer here at home!

BUT, GOD forbid we spend any money here in the U.S.

BTW... We also give billions in TAX PAYER funds (now borrowed debt) to OTHER Countries in the form of AID! Again, God forbid we spend any TAX dollars helping those in need here in the U.S.

ON a SIDE note: HEF

VERY INTESTING web link! Thanks!

Take a LOOK at this other poll on the same site, in regard to issues etc.

Take a look at your Obama's opinion on TARP as he was all for it and actually campaigned to have it.

Of course Obama was for TARP; He's a Democrat. He also wanted more control over executive pay on companies that received TARP funds (welfare). Republicans wanted a free giveaway, no strings attached. Obama is giving more aid to the poor and lower middle class (socialism and welfare).

I agree with you... the poorer one is, the richer one becomes... why work for a living!

Come on everyone... we cannot continue this way of doing business or run the country... social welfare is not what this country is based on... yes, we have to take care of the unfortunate, but not this way...

Everyone must come together and work as a team just like in companies... if we can't, like companies, we will go down the drain and go bankrupt! Who will bail us out then? Middle East Oil countries because without us, they don't have any business!
