The Father's Day do-it-yourself gift

Original post made by Douglas Kendall, another community, on Jun 15, 2009

I relaxed in the backyard yesterday watching the wife
and daughter #2 struggling to assemble a swinging outdoor chair/hammock thing from WalMart, that is to be my Father’s Day present.

Since I showed no sign of eagerness to rescue them from this onerous task, and instead relaxed and read nearby (though out of ‘accidental’ throwing range of tools), enjoying a refreshing drink, they refused to speak to me until the project was completed.

After that, proud of their completion, they magnanimously began speaking to me again, in order to declare the completion of said superlative creation (upon which I rocked while continuing my reading until the sun sank below the Pleasanton Ridge, and the distraction of the growing evening chill drove me indoors).

However, I won the subsequent Scrabble game, and now they aren’t
speaking to be again – at least not with any words over 7 letters.
(And the chills seems to have followed me indoors!)

Douglas, I'm curious, why would you think anyone cares?

And Douglas, what is the point of this posting... some superiority you have a need for?

I am happy they made an attempt to get out there.

Can you cook? I would like to see your technical skills on this topic.

It's a well written, puff piece depicting a stereotypical lazy father, his family interaction & their weekend high jinks.

That could just as easily had been a storyline from The Simpson's, Family Guy, Heather has two Mommies, (the TV sitcom) etc.

Ease up on the criticism you nimrods!

sometimes its good to just let us do something on our own specially if it was a gift for dad. Happy Fathers Day! while some might think you were bragging you didnt help it sounds more like you were bragging that your girls did something for you.
