Gov. Schwarzenegger has proposed selling San Quentin and other state assets as a way to raise money to offset the budget crisis. Our legislators should be competent at selling off state assets to private concerns. They've been selling iff themselves for so long, it should come naturally to them. On a more serious note (whaaaat?!? that wasn't serious?!?). If the state sells San Quentin as part of the prison reform and prison closures then SQ can be developed into something more productive. However, if it has to stay open, and continue to house inmates, how much do you think the state is going to pay the private operators to provide this service? Seems like a short-sighted idea to me.
