I'm guessing that the price of this seafood will make you eyeballs roll around in their sockets -- similar to what you pay at Gene's, or maybe even more. I bought some $30 per pound halibut at Gene's for a special occasion, and it was obviously old. Gene's refunded my money, but a good lesson that getting gouged doesn't buy you quality. I've never had a bad experience buying frozen halibut and half the price.

Good fresh seafood is expensive no matter where you go. Fresh salmon used to be $10 or so a pound, but now it's more like $20-$25. You can buy frozen, but it doesn't have the same texture or flavor. For salmon, you can also buy farmed ("Atlantic"), but it's not ecologically a good choice. No I'm not a grocer or a purveyor of seafood, I just know what I like.

Fresh seafood goes bad quickly, perhaps you didn't cook the fish you bought from Gene's right away. Good for them, anyway, for refunding your money, no questions asked.

They will need more than a "Fresh Seafood Event" to generate traffic and customers. The store is very over priced. I guess that is why the parking lot is almost empty on a daily basis. It is a shame because the store is beautiful inside. Hopefully, projected future businesses will survey the community prior to establishing a residence in town. I would venture to say if a survey of the community was taken; New Leaf would not have invested so heavily in Pleasanton. I wish them well, but they are surely off to a SLOW start.
