The new county sheriff Yesenia Sanchez campaigned last year, in part, about the deaths in the Alameda County jail. In an article last year on KTVU just before the election, it reported 58 deaths at the jail since 2014. That is about 8 deaths per year.

With 5 deaths there in just the first 4 months of 2023, it seems like the new sheriff in town is failing.
