I say that it’s hard to know what the future holds in terms of the economy, climate impacts, etc. Two paths Pleasanton has always taken have served the City well: fiscal consevatism and investment in outstanding community amenities and infrastructure. Here the paths seem to diverge… but do they really? As a former councilmember, while I appreciate the concerns of Councilmembers Balch and Narum, it’s hard to justify holding a property the community wants to retain but can’t use because of deferred maintenance. Making the property useable again increases value and quality of life to residents, and opens up the possibility of revenue generation. If there’s no interest in community use the property should be declared government surplus and sold.
