Pleasanton Police Support Special Olympics

Original post made by Ken mano, Willow West, on May 15, 2022

Many THANKS, to the Pleasanton Police Department for their wonderful support of the Regional Special Olympics Track meet, held in Pleasanton on Saturday (May 14).
Mayor Karla Brown was the welcoming speaker for the event held at Amador Valley High School, she thanked the athletes for their participation and all the volunteers for making it happen. And she got to start the event with “LET THE GAMES BEGIN”. Pleasanton Police Chief David Swing also attended the Opening Ceremonies.

Pleasanton Police Captain Kurt Schlehuber did a great job as MC for the Opening Ceremonies and kept things moving. Thanks to the Police Department Color Guard did their impressive and beautiful job presenting the colors, and Zoe Havard, a pleasnton student sang the National Anthem.

Officer Ryan Tujague was in attendance all day long, supporting the event and was seen high fiving athletes and congratulating them on their awards all day long. Police Departments across the nation support Special Olympics with events like “Tip a Cop” and the torch runs.

Two hundred Special Olympic athletes had a memorable day and many thanks to the 300 volunteers who made it happen. Some of the organizations sending significant numbers of volunteers were the National Charity League, Boys Team charity and Young Men’s Service League chapters throughout the East Bay, the University of Pacific, Physical Therapy Department, PLAY Leadership, AVHS & Foothill High Schools, and missionaries and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Thanks to BRET Real Estate Team for their support and contribution. The event was hosted by the Amador Valley Athletic Boosters. Thanks also to Steve McKinley Graphics for designing the Volunteer T-Shirts.
