Editorial: 'Coming soon' -- Flyer misinformation reinforces need to ask questions

Original post made on Feb 19, 2022

We didn't know if we were dealing with an honest mistake or intentional disinformation when we saw a flyer announcing a five-story commercial and residential building near Pleasanton's historic downtown was "coming soon."

I remember seeing this editorial/opinion piece from Julie Testa and feeling quite appalled at her misleading language. I personally do not feel she chose those words by accident. She is a city official and certainly knows she needs to choose her words carefully, especially when publishing them in print. She was clearly trying to rile people up so she could gain their support for her cause. Shame on her.

This activity of city council member Julie Testa is deceitful. It certainly diminished her creditability and also collaterally diminished the creditability of the entire Pleasanton city council.

I have not heard Kathy Narum call her out on it, I have not heard Jack Balch call her out on it, I have not heard Mayor Brown call her out in it. Valarie Arkin seems to follow along with Testa.

Councilmembers Narum and Balch realize bickering and back-biting have no place in council chambers, choosing instead to take the high road. They also realized the project was on the agenda and the staff report by the very capable Ellen Clark, Community Development Director, would dispel any notion of imminent danger from the construction of this project.
This council has far too many important agenda items for time-wasting hum-and-haw "I'm confused" questions which make each meeting drag on. And on. And on. Seldom since this council was seated has a meeting ended before the 11:00 hour. Items have been repeatedly delayed, often due to long, dragged-out, nit-picky soapbox questions that are tantamount to beating a dead horse.
You've been elected to lead this city through some challenging times, Mayor Brown and councilmembers. Now get on with it, and do so in a timely and respectful manner so agenda items don't need to get pushed aside until the next meeting.
