It was about a year ago that the Oakland mayor tried to move the Oakland homeless camps to the Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Our city manager Nelson Fialho shut the door on that attempt.

Now Kaplan and Haubert are back with this new twist, putting the Oakland homeless in RV's at the fairgrounds in Pleasanton. There is a lot of Alameda County land available on the Altamont Pass that can be utilized. Why bring Oakland homeless problems to Pleasanton?

The Oakland homeless problems are problems of the Oakland mayor and Oakland city council, they are trying to move their Oakland homeless problems over here, and into other Alameda County communities.

"But she cautioned that money is needed to pay for the pilot program and that's a little complicated. While state and federal funds are available to address homelessness, money isn't earmarked for the RV issue, she said."

Since elected officials in the county appear to have disregarded/ignored the required 2/3 majority vote to raise the sales tax, yet another "modest" increase can be passed to pay for this. Come on! If you are already paying 10.25%, you can easily "afford" to pay 11%, 11.5%, 12%, or whatever rate is "needed". It's only "fair".

This dysfunctional democratic parties leadership in Oakland owns this homeless problem. it is the dysfunctional leadership in Oakland responsibility to function with this problem on their doorstep, not send it to someone else's door step.

Instead of complaining about taxes and why they can't/wont' do anything with this proposal, maybe the Sups could utilize some creativity. Build some dedicated RV parking places on underutilized vacant properties or parking lots around the county. Most RV camping facilities have what are called hook-ups, so there is power, sewer and water provided to each site. These areas would be dedicated to housing those in need of housing. There are tons of un-used RV's just sitting around. Some are waiting to be sold or their owners have abandoned their use. This concept could easily be adapted to any site with little investment. They would not be intended for constant moving or roving from location to location. Not a vacation/camping rental. Think: Mobile home park/ semi permanent. It's simple, affordable housing or shelter. You can structure the policy many ways to determine how best to implement, but TRY SOMETHING rather than finding ways to roadblock initiative by withholding funding until the PERFECT solution comes along.

I worked in Oakland dealing with all of their issues at a very street level position. I moved to Pleasanton in 1970 for a reason, I don't want to live with the problems that they have created through their policies. The politicians created the mess, now let them clean it up without dumping it on the people of other cities. Oakland used to be a great city until the Democrats gained control and ruined it with their liberal policies. Maybe "been there" wants RV's in his backyard but I sure don't.

Supervisor Haubert is a newly elected rookie. He in some manner is duped into supporting this. Haubert does not Represent Pleasanton.

Supervisor Nate Miley represents Pleasanton. When this was first brought to the county supervisors by the Oakland city council. Supervisor Nate Miley said "ridiculous" use the coliseum land.

Now Rebeca Kaplan is trying this new twist recruiting Haubert to support her. I researched Kaplan, she is identified by local media as lesbian. She published a book along with Naomi Tucker, Liz Highleyman on bisexual politics.

She apparently identifies as bisexual with this book. The book advocates extremism, lesbian separatism. Separatism moderately advocates that lesbians should form separate self sufficient communities devoid of men, and which should have as little contact with wider society (and men in particular) as possible. (99 % of homeless are men).

In extreme form, lesbian separatism advocates that all men should be killed. It goes on how insemination can occur without men to continue population.

Google or search Lesbian separatism

Really crazy stuff.

Over half of these homeless people are not from around here and until these people are made to prove that they are from this area they should be denied ANY aid at all. In fact they should be given a bus ticket back to where they came from and if they refuse then start arresting them, throw their belongings away and when word gets around they will gladly "self relocate"

Need anymore reasons to vote YES in September? Oakland receives the resources to manage their problem and their is plenty of vacant property to pilot.

Never said put the RV project in Pleasanton. Actually the Oakland Coliseum would be great. And how about the unused/vacant housing on military facilities? Seems we have several of those. Since tax-payer dollars have already been spent on those buildings and infrastructure, it would be relatively simple. And it doesn't have to be permanent.
This is a huge national problem, but it will only get addressed with local solutions and communities working together, not simply saying NOT HERE. And putting homeless people in prison is, well, I can't even begin to comment here. But getting rid of the criminals in Sacramento this fall would be a good place to start to heal the state.
