Pleasanton Military Families hold successful Packout

In spite of the pandemic, the Pleasanton Military Families were able to continue having packouts to support local men and women serving in the military throughout the world. At their 4th of July packout, held last Saturday, over 200 boxes were filled to be sent to countries where our military are serving.

Due to the closure of the Veterans Hall, PMG has been able to use the outdoor pavilion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Vineyard Avenue. Prior packouts during Covid-19 volunteers were limited to PMG members, but this one had plenty of volunteers, including boys and parents from the Pleasanton chapter of Boys Team Charity and missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

For the first time ever, PMG used all of their supplies (food, toiletries, books, games, etc) to fill the gift boxes and had virtually nothing left, so they will need lots of donations prior to their November packout, which should be back in the Veterans Hall. Gathering supplies will be a top priority and anyone who would like to help is invited to go to their website to see the items needed for the boxes ( Their website has items listed which can be purchased directly from Amazon and sent to PMG, the variety includes items from Rubik’s cubes to toothpaste.

A wonderful project is the homemade cards made by local children’s groups, seniors and others which are inserted into each box. Since local schools have not been meeting in person, this normal source of cards was not available. Just a few weeks prior to this packout, PMG had very few cards, but a request to local churches and other groups brought a flood of cards, enough for cards to be inserted into every box.

Prior to the beginning of each packout, a highlight is when new military mothers or other relatives tell about their sons or relative and updates are given about transfers and promotions and a military prayer is offered. Local Chiropractor, Kelly Peterson told about her cousin, who is now serving, and was able to personally fill boxes for him.

Please help Pleasanton Military Families support our local sons and daughters who are serving throughout the world to keep us safe.
