Costco

Original post made by hmmm, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Oct 10, 2020

In both the Chamber/Weekly forum and the tv 30 interview Karla Brown stated she remained neutral with regard to Measure MM (the anti Costco initiative). A quick google search indicates that is not correct.

In the Pleasanton Weekly, 9/23/2016, summarizing the forum hosted on Monday of that week, they write in response to a question on MM "Testa & Brown support the ballot measure. . ." Here's a link to the paper Web Link The article begins on page 5.

In the Independent, 10/20/2016, summarizing the Plesantonvoters forum held on 10/13/2016, they write "Both (Karla Brown & Julie Testa) favored a yes vote on Measure MM. this is on page 12. Web Link

Further on the citizens for planned growth website, they confirm "Karla Brown & Julie Testa both endorsed Yes on Measure MM" Here's a link to the website--scroll near the bottom Web Link

Anti Costco leaders also donated $4,000 to her campagin. Carl Cox who owns two Shell Stations in Pleasanton has donated $1,000 to her current campaign.

Why is Karla Brown not being honest about her support for measure MM?

"Why is Karla Brown not being honest about her support for measure MM"....

Because she's a politician, a low level politician but a politician nevertheless. And maybe Matt S. promised her some votes...and thats how the game is played.

I guess I should change that, because its likely to be deleted, to "somebody" promised her some votes.

Jerry Pentin will never be elected Mayor with anonymous posters supporting him.

Karla Brown supporters identify themselves, provide cause for why Karla should be elected Mayor.

I did a google search too and personally I don't want a Costco. I am not a member of this store and I prefer my own grocery store. When I drive to Stoneridge and 680, the traffic in the area is already not acceptable. I moved to Pleasanton until after you voted in 2016, but here are the real people that fought and campaigned for Costco-

The NO vote for Measure MM is:
KATHY NARUM, Vice Mayor, City of Pleasanton
ARNE OLSON, Councilmember, City of Pleasanton
MICHAELA HERTLE, Library Commissioner
JOHN SENSIBA, Pleasanton Business Owner and Past Chairman, Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce
JUDY WHEELER, Downtown Small Business Owner and Member, Downtown Vitality Committee
Arguments against.

This is just my opinion, but i do not support politicians that try so hard for a Costco when it only serves paying members and the rest of us have to work through the extra traffic and we can't shop there unless we pay for a membership. this is not right. I shop online except for groceries and most of my neighbors do too. I will not shop at Costco. I am not happy about this. If we get any tax money it will be many years in the future if at all. I could never vote for these people.

She is supported by Matt Sullivan if that tells you ANYTHING about where she is leaning. A vote for her is a vote AGAINST Costco. And are we really debating Costco again? Build the store please.

To be clear, we voted to change what could be built on that land—we did not vote for or against a Costco. Web Link

PLEASE STOP calling it a vote against Costco; that is not what measure MM was for. Again, MM was NOT AGAINST COSTCO!

It's no secret that Karla received money from the owner of the local Gravel Company. She admitted so in last week's paper. What is galling is that she said he is not a developer. She's right. He does not build. He makes his money selling to builders.
It's impossible for me to vote for that type of hypocrisy.

It's also well known that the owner does not want anyone else using El Charro Road, with the County and/or the City placing regulations on his trucks and his exclusive use of the road. Karla's anti-East Side building stance goes hand and hand with his needs. She's a politician, not a leader that Pleasanton deserves.

Leaves me to wonder why anyone would run for office with people like the above posters spreading lies. I did the search of her 460 donations on the City's website, and I looked at her endorsement page. NO MATT SULLIVAN anywhere. Why are Pentin supporters spreading lies? I have heard he was a bully and I guess it is true.

I also googled the ballot statements like the person above, ads for Costco and more and her name is no where. She said she did not campaign for or against Costco and she is telling the truth- how refreshing. Answering a question during a question and answer period during an election is not campaigning for or against Costco.

PENTIN AND TEAM - Stick to the facts people.

They run for office for MONEY. And who's to tell who is actually spreading lies? Who should "stick to the facts people."?

Many people on this blog and others who are repeatedly bringing up the Costco issue and claiming Karla Brown supported Measure M (which is clearly their spin on facts) must not have many thoughts on current issues facing Pleasanton, especially the concerns of the small business owners who will be impacted by a Costco coming to town. The majority of people who live in Pleasanton voted, are moving on and don’t see the relevance of this mud-slinging. Speaking of politicians, doesn’t Jerry Pentin have the big campaign headquarters on Main Street. Who is supporting that big expense?

Wow Jennifer, people are discussing the lack of transparency regarding Brown’s fundraising contributions. So that means in 2016, brown took sizeable financial lump sum donation from an individual who has gasoline stations around town and did not want competition from a Costco gas station. So we have someone trying to keep us paying for higher gas prices at his stations instead of letting us chose more affordable prices? Brown also recently wrote an article acknowledging she took a sizeable donation from the quarry company but that she had no problem taking it because they are not developers (presumably why she did not announce the gasoline station owner contribution either).
I can’t make sense of her rationale that taking money from a developer/builder is wrong but it’s OK taking it from businesses having a direct financial interest and/or gain in the outcome of a a future city council vote. I think she is disingenuous at best

One last thing. I laughed when I read Pentin had a big campaign headquarters on Main Street. You mean that tiny office facing Main Street sectioned off in a former restaurant that has been vacant for over a year? I think my laundry room is bigger. LOL
