Tim Talk: A Black conservative's view on race in America

Original post made on Jul 20, 2020

Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Shelby Steele minces no words when he describes the current Black Lives Matter and other racial protests, saying they are a "distraction" from the real issues facing the Black community.

Dear Tim Hunt,
Did you mean to burn down the house that Jeb Bing built? I have been a subscriber since day one, including the Holiday fund every year, and I am amazed that a platform has been lent to a privileged white guy (I am also one) that espouses such one-sided viewpoints that are hyper-political, and worse (that part I am not also one).
Your editorial 'A Black conservative's view on race in America' smacked of scouring for a viewpoint that matches your own, eventually finding one, and giving it precedence in the Weekly - WOW, I have to say it - with a completely racist slant.
The point of the recent protest marches for 99.5% of Americans was to listen to the Black experience, and attempt to understand, as it is completely different than that of white America - and absolutely not to empower in any way a vision that Black people see themselves as 'victims' as you quote propotes.
You even included a mention that "during the 1960s non-violent protest marchers dressed in their Sunday best and organizers insisted that people were polite or they were asked to leave". Really? Make America great again and let's have people swallow their voice when it doesn't align with ancient establishment views. Frankly, shame on you.
C'mon Pleasanton Weekly, I'm not expecting you to be an advocate for any side. In fact, I miss the days when you were not blatantly seen as doing so. The good news is, I notice The Independent has become much less political. I can't believe that as a subscriber since day 1, I am seriously thinking the time may have come to leave the Pleasanton Weekly subscriber list. I can't imagine empowering a platform for such a divisive voice - huge apologies to Jeb Bing for what this publication seems to becoming.

Yes, let's silence the opinions that don't align with yours.....

This is a BLOG where Tim posts HIS OPINIONS....

Don't like it, don't read it.

Good bye and good riddance...….maybe move to Hong Kong to experience the type of "free speech" you prefer...…..

This is the way it is now...if you don't agree with my point of view then you must be a racist and I'm gonna boycott you. No discussion because I'm right and you are wrong. So then I guess you should boycott this paper if you're offended by an article. Maybe find out where all of the other "offendanistas" get their news. And having an opposing view is not divisive.
