I drove UP that road a few months ago with my boyfriend and another couple. There is no room for error -- I DROVE LIKE A SNAIL AND DIDN'T CARE WHO GOT IMPATIENT! This was on the Danville side. On the way back I drove down the North entrance -- much better!!! I remember as a 12 year-old Girl Scout about 70 years ago going up that road with the scout leaders for an overnight. I was terrified! I was so happy that my parents drove up the next day just to see their little girl having a good time. Of course, I rode home with Daddy, who's driving I trusted implicitly.
