Editor’s note: City of Pleasanton officials released a special letter to the community on Friday amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) local emergency situation. Below is the Community Letter, in its entirety.

Thank you, Pleasanton!

All of us chose Pleasanton as a place to live, raise families, create businesses, and work together.

Now, in the midst of this worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, all of us can see why we chose this special community to call home. The outpouring of support, love, generosity, giving, caring and shared concern for one another during this crisis is what makes Pleasanton a special place to live and work.

Here’s what we see that gives us great hope and bolsters our spirits:

Families, seniors, citizens and businesses are working together to shelter in place, to provide assistance to each other, to work safely from home, to reach out to those in need and provide food, goods, donations, and to help others in any manner during this unprecedented and scary time.

At Stanford Health Care-ValleyCare hospital and throughout the city, our community physicians, nurses and medical staff are here for us providing lifesaving medical services. Frontline first responders from the Pleasanton Police Department and Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department are on the job and protecting us.

While schools are physically closed, and our students miss the experience of attending classes and joining with friends, our teachers and administrators have quickly adapted and are remotely educating the future of our community — our children. And while sheltered in place with their children, parents are keeping their families, their work obligations, and their neighborhoods strong.

Employees at grocery stores and essential businesses are working long days to provide vital food and supplies, while Pleasanton Garbage Service maintains recycling and trash to keep our city clean and safe.

City staff is delivering public safety, essential maintenance services, and important communications to our community. As well, the Pleasanton Weekly is publishing news of importance to ensure everyone has access to the information they need.

We recognize the tremendous fear and dire healthcare threats to us locally and throughout the world. Yet, as we live through this unprecedented period in history, we are thankful and proud of everyone in Pleasanton. We have come together as a community to help each other, to protect each other, and to safeguard the community we call our hometown.

THANK YOU, Pleasanton!

Sincerely,

Mayor and City Council

  1. Our family has been Pleasanton residents for nearly 50 years. It includes a retired nurse, an active nurse, an ER doctor and an EMT. They know the risks and continue to go about their jobs caring for patients and helping their families through these challenging times. We are proud of them and their contribution to keeping us all safe and healthy.

This statement from the Mayor and City Council declaring their gratitude for our dedicated health care workers is no surprise. While Pleasanton’s population has grown through the years, the community maintains its small-town compassion.

Just another reason to be proud of where we live.
