Aquatic Center

Original post made by Gizmo, Valley Trails, on Nov 20, 2019

Who is in charge and who owns it. It seems all operations are centered around the swim team. The water temp. of 80 degrees is too cold for most of the adults in the water exercise groups yet parents of the swim team complain if the water is warmer . Ideal temp. for arthritis sufferers is 86 degrees . How about keeping the temp. at 83 degrees which is half way between 80 and 86. If the swim team does not like it tell them to go buy some land (no taxpayer money) and build their own pool. This center was built for all of the city not just the swim team.

Enough is enough.

Here here! I have believed for a long time that the Aquatic Center should be for the personal therapeutic use of two or three cranky elderly folks like myself and that allowing hundreds of Masters and USS swimmers to use the facilities is a massive waste of resources. There’s a big old park right outside the gate, so why can’t they just do their thing out there so I can bob up and down in the water for twenty minutes twice a week? I suffer from arthritis, so the entire pool should adjust to me and Gizmo. We have needs, and we’re boomers, so you all owe us!

Have you tried calling the aquatic center or city? You can complain to nobody online, but you might find throwing a message in a bottle and tossing it into the bay is more effective. Maybe the city needs a special phone line for Pleasanton's passive aggressive population.

Reality Bites is a registered user.

I seem to recall there are three pools at the Aquatic Center. Could one of them be adjusted to accommodate the cold blooded folks?

Old Crone / Gizmo-

Do you work all day long?

The kids are in school all day, so they swim early morning and after school.

I see many old people swimming during they day - maybe you can stop by there and talk to the staff at the pool to discuss your issues.

Personally, I think it's great kids are out participating in athletic activities rather than sitting around on the phone, computers, games, etc.

As far as not liking a temp of 80 degrees and needing 86 degrees for arthritis - I sure don't want my tax dollars going to PG&E to heat a pool way too hot for most people.

How about joining LifeStyle RX in Livermore? It's setup to help people with Arthritis (I've had it since I was 40 - 20+ years now) and the dues are very reasonable. If you go onto Medicare Advantage, it's probably free.

Lighten up and support our kids.

The tired Aquatic Center was hijacked by the swim teams long ago. It has few hours available to the public and it is pretty filthy. The staff is unfriendly and unwelcoming as well.

For a better experience with a modern pool and a nice staff, go to the Wave instead in Dublin. They have a warm pool inside all year for water walking and lap swimming. It has morning and evening hours available most days and is a much better experience than Pleasanton.

Here is the information on the Wave. If you just do the lap swimming, you don't have to pay the high rates for the Water Park section of the Wave.

[The swim team in Pleasanton need to have their own private club with a set of private pools like most swim teams do in other cities. They've hijacked the public one instead so the Dublin pool or both San Ramon pools --- California High as well as Dougherty Rec Center --- is where most Pleasanton residents go. Sad but true.]

Buy a 2m water aerobic wetsuit. You will be warmer and save the taxpayer thousands of dollars in natural gas bills to heat the pool.

Thanks for the suggestion about The Wave! I've been looking for something like this.
