What a show indeed! It's been 41 years since I first watched a Foothill Band Review parade, and I've only missed a handful in all those years. As a band parent, it was obligatory, of course, but getting caught up in the excitement kept me returning even after my own band kid graduated and moved away.
Pleasanton has just received another accolade as one of the best places to live, and this long-standing event is just a part of the reason so many find our community so desirable.
Alumni from 40+ years ago still look forward to the review, meet up for breakfast and watch with enthusiasm as bands from across the state gather to strut their stuff and entertain us to the nth degree.
In the past we've seen bands whose band rooms have been destroyed by fire, so they donned matching t-shirts, grabbed the borrowed instruments, held heads high and showed us what a real music program does toward instilling a sense of self-worth in so many young people.
Few of these youngsters will go on to become professional musicians, but the lessons learned from participation will help guide them throughout their lives, regardless of their chosen careers.
The quality of music heard at this year's event was exceptional, as always. The performances both at parade and on-field were professional, riveting, and just darn good theatre. If you've never been, put it on your calendar for next year. You're in for a real treat and a great insight into what makes Pleasanton the fine community it is. It is a grand event for all ages, from the littlest toe-tappers to us oldsters who love the sparkle the sun on those shiny brass tubas and those perfectly aligned diagonal lines of musicians who bear themselves with dignity.
Thanks, band directors, judges, band boosters, band members, community leaders and all who worked to make this a great part of our town. And thanks, too, Weekly, for such a great story. See you again next year.

We hadn't been before, but we went this year, and everything written in the article and by "I love a parade" is true!

The evening Field Show in particular was really, really impressive. For $12 we were treated to a fresh 10-minute music-theater-marching combo performance every 15 minutes for 4 hours. Thankfully with an intermission and tasty food available!

These events require incredible discipline and perfectionism, and the experience transforms these kids. We could not believe we were watching teenagers, until after the performances were done and they got wild for the awards!
