Ex-Dublin mayor Sbranti appointed to community college board

I'm an instructor at Las Positas College. I'm saddened to see Tim Sbranti appointed to the board of this school. We need people on the governing board that understand the needs of the entire college - the campus, the instructional staff, the support staff, and most of all, the students. The last thing we need are local politicians masquerading as board members, when they're actually there to make a name for themselves. Mr. Sbranti is one of those local politicians, and not a particularly good or balanced one at that. As mayor of Dublin, he cut deals with developers that led to the the sprawl that defines that city today. He was known as a "developers' mayor" and in return received campaign cash which he used (unsuccessfully) in a run for State Assembly. He was such a loyal friend to developers that he raised almost $3M for that race, four times more cash than the candidate that actually won. He's kept a fairly low profile until now.

He's got his eye on Eric Swalwell's seat in Congress, now that Swalwell has announced his candidacy for President. The job at Las Positas is nothing other than a placeholder for him, just another item to add to his resume. Another election cycle and he'll be gone. Shame on the existing Board for making the appointment. Any of the other four candidates would have put LPC, not themselves, first.

Mr. Sbranti's swearing-in is Tuesday, April 16, at the Board office on Dublin Bl in Dublin. I, for one, plan to attend and, if they'll hear me, chastise the Board for such a negligent appointment.

@INSTRUCTOR:

You are an anonymous poster here.
I doubt that you will appear at the swearing in to have anything to say!
