Pleasanton: South Bay boy wins Scripps Regional Spelling Bee

Rishik Gandhasri, a seventh-grader from San Jose, took the top spot last Sunday at the 2019 Scripps Bay Area Regional Spelling Bee, held in Pleasanton's Amador Theater.

I never understood the hype around spelling B. What's the bid deal in memorizing the spellings? What problem does it solve? I'm not against it. I'm just trying to educate myself.

I think it's probably the same reason why shows like Jeopardy are popular. People just like trivia and people displaying their intelligence.
