Second annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop

Original post made by Jeremy Walsh, editor, associate editor, on Nov 30, 2018

Blue Oaks Church, City Serve of the TriValley and Valley Community Church are calling on local residents, businesses and organizations to join them in meeting the needs of Dublin and Pleasanton families this holiday season through their second annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop. Registrants this year number 2,500. The Holiday Shop will be hosted at Workday on Thursday, December 13 and Saturday, December 15. Any excess gifts will be given to victims of the Camp Fire.

“The Holiday Pop-Up Shop is intended to restore the joy of giving back to parents in our community,” said Lyssia Porter, Compassion Director of Blue Oaks Church. “Rather than go with the traditional giving tree model, we wanted to provide parents with as close to a traditional holiday shopping experience as possible. That way parents get to pick out gifts for their own loved ones and don’t have to make the tough choice between purchasing gifts or paying for rent or food for the month.”

Those organizing the shop are seeking donations of new household items including bedding and kitchen appliances, gift cards and toys. One of the most needed items is gift certificates for work boots or school shoes. A complete list of requested items can be found on the website at www.toyshop.team. Those who are not sure who they want to buy an item for can also make a financial contribution and those items most needed will be purchased. All items are needed by December 9 so the shop can be set up by volunteers.

Individuals receiving gifts have been referred primarily through the Dublin and Pleasanton School District. Those who complete the registration process are assigned a date and time to come “shop” for items on a first-registered, first-served basis. For more information please visit the website or call 925-846-6622.

Please support this as you can. Lyssia runs an amazing experience for the parents. One of my holiday highlights!
