One politician made money outside of politics and going in representing issues that directly impact the voting base.

The other made his money in politics and building a reputation chasing a problem he admits has no evidence of, and is quick to point out that there isn't evidence of not being a problem.

Easy vote in my opinion

One should check margins that the 'other' won by in his elections. One would also want to view current polls for the 'other' and they would know the 'other' will win again.

Minority voices that are loud, are still minorities. The American way.... AT least the 'other' doesn't hide from voters like 'another' party does......hum?

100 people turned out? really?
The correct report would be that Inklings was standing room only
and that outside the open doorways were 40 to 50 more listening as best as they could.
I was there it was jam packed.

15th Congressional District has an opportunity to elect Rudy Peters as Congressman. He will work with our President on Illegal immigration,ending Sanctuary cities,stronger borders,tax cuts and reforms and Infrastructure repairs. Swalwell supports sanctuary cities and is not in favor of cost of living raises for those on Social Security...Rudy peters is against sanctuary cities and wants to see those on Social Security get a real cost of living increase. Swalwell fights the President everyday accomplishing Nothing. We in the 15th district must have someone who will fight on our behalf...not resist! I support Rudy peters and I hope you will too. Please look at swalwell's dismal voting record as a Congressman..that should speak volumes to you!

ES, is just a low level Pelosi clone. He doesn’t do anything to help to country and only talks our President and country down. He as well as most democrats hate this country and everything it stands for.

Oh no, please dont vote for another person with no political and government experience! We see how the 2016 election worked out. Its a circus, global embarrassment and down right scarey. Soon we will be either red or dead.

Don't worry. Peters doesn't have a chance.

Status quo has really been effective though right BobB? You don't like trump, no problem with that, but swalwell is following his playbook - aggravate the voting base on false problems. But hey, it's ok when a democratic does it? Give me a break.

Swalwell does something effective and shows some support for the people of this district and I'll change my tune.

@PP,

I liked what Swalwell was doing with Katherine Baker with respect to the cost of college education.

I was at the event and it was elbow room only in a room with a maximum ocupancy of 200 plus over flow outside. The article did not get Swallwel’s comments correctly. Sad that even our little town paper cant or wont get it right.

@David -

I attended the entire event and approximated the amount of attendees based on photographs and eyewitness accounts, in addition to speaking with other press and media outlets covering the townhall. The meeting room had a capacity far less than 100, and we estimated there to be around 70 people inside, with 30 outside. Please also keep in mind that there were many individuals who came and went during the event and didn't stay for the entire duration. The 100 figure is based on these factors.

Quotes came directly from a personal interview with Swalwell or comments he made before the Q&A. If you have any conflicting quotes, please list them below instead of attacking the credibility of the paper, which has a strong reputation for factual reporting.

Pete- ES is one of the most diplomatic and respectful speakers in Congress. You may not like what he says or his political party, but whats wrong with getting facts. He is not talking the country down but the Trump administration is doing it on a global scale. Im embarrassed to have him in the Oval Office and frightened he has the nuclear codes.

Andy - obviously I hit a sensitive button with you. We differ on the attendance but why are you so touchy about reporting a nose count? If you think Im attacking your reporting or our local paper to warrant your reply, consider another line of work now because you dont have the temperament (or you are young). While ES said there is no evidence (and It would be inappropriate to confirm anything outside of the Committee and before the hearing conclusion), ES said its important to continue to investigate the allegations. PS, i believe the room occupancy is 200 per the sign

Rudy Peters is against Sanctuary cities. Why anyone would support E.S. who champions them especially after local resident K.Steinle was taken from us by an Illegal who was protected by such nonsense status? Swalwell has done little in his time...he did not vote for tax cuts, he is against Social security cost of living raises,he has done nothing on Traffic,will not help to negotiate in getting Google Or Apple to the tri valley area? Rudy Peters Will work with our President on many of the issues that E.S will not. For the younger folks you stand a greater chance of college tuition lowering with Rudy peters then you will with the promise the sky deliver nothing swalwell. We need change in the 15th district. lets make it so vote for Rudy Peters. Check out E.S. voting record in congress...its horrible!

Doug.....Maybe I am reading you wrong? I hope you do not want Sanctuary cities? That the event involving Ms Steinle is okay with you? That you must be against tax cuts and safer borders.....See that is what E.S. is all about and his hatred of our President. I voted for and support President Trump and will in 2020....and I will vote for Rudy Peters who puts the people of the 15th district first before political gain unlike that of E.S. Maybe you can be clearer on the issue.....because E.S. does NOT have your back. He is only out for himself....his dismal voting record speaks volumes...look it up yourself you will see. Rudy Peters for a better 15th district,a safer 15th district for all of us.

"will not help to negotiate in getting Google Or Apple to the tri valley area"

Where did that come from? I would love to see either company open up technology driven offices in Pleasanton.

@john lahommedieu

I don't believe in sanctuary cities, but I'm not a single-issue voter either. As for what happened to Steinle, that incident has nothing in particular to do with illegal immigration. If a stolen loaded gun found it's way onto the streets of San Francisco due to the incompetence of the Federal Park ranger who it was stolen from, then there was a high probability that there was going to be tragic ending, illegal immigration or not. There are plenty of home-grown, native-born, all-American nut cases out there in San Francisco, too, in case you haven't noticed. Trying to suggest that a tragedy would have been averted if only there were no illegal immigrants is hopelessly naive.

As for Rudy Peters, any candidate who thinks that Donald Trump has all of his marbles has lost my vote.

@BobB

What's even funnier is that JL preceded his "will not help to negotiate in getting Google Or Apple to the tri valley area" complaint by complaining about tri-valley traffic, as if having a major Google or Apple presence in the tri-valley is going to do anything to help the traffic situation here.

doug.....your in denial regarding Steinle.....Sanctuary city status was relevant in that matter and it was tragic.....to give the answer you gave is an insult to Ms Steinle and her family......I hope you never lose a loved one under the same circumstances because you would change your stand on Sanctuary city status fast! Vote for whomever but know this.....you get Nothing with Swalwell....you haven't seen much in the time he has been in office other then resistance.....if you are half smart...you will look at the two candidates and see one truly wants to help those in the 15th district.....the other..the droid....he is all about himself and nobody else! Even the rest of the country knows this as well as Trump and Putin!

@Winston

Gutting and ignoring the 2nd Amendment fits in quite well with "talking the country down". It's part of the Constitution and Swalwell ignores it like most members of his party.

I stand by what I said Stalwell and the Democrats hate this country and are doing everything they can to destroy it. When you have a chance google the democratic platform.

They hate this country, have contempt for their fellow citizens, no mention of god, support killing of babies. You name it and it’s a party of evil.

@PP

I won't. Anyone who wanted a "guarantee" that any corporate tax rate reduction/resulting profits needed to be "shared" with workers indicates Swalwell is part of the left wing (socialist) fringe of his party. Employees are already being paid with wages - and businesses are not started/expanded/run for charitable reasons.
