Pleasanton Preps: Former Foothill football players surprise coach Sweeney

In keeping with the theme of paying homage to former athletes or coaches that I covered in my 26 years as a local sports writer in the Tri-Valley, let's talk about former Foothill football coach Matt Sweeney.

Agree! As a former high school sports writer for the Weekly in early 2000s, I interviewed Coach Sweeney for a football pre-season article. Watching him in action during an August practice, my lasting impression of him: if you look up the definition of Football Coach in the dictionary - today it would be Google - you would find Sweeney’s picture.
