Time to discontinue swimming as part of the high school PE curriculum. Why would any school district want to take on that liability with such large groups of students in each class? Do they really think they are teaching this kids to swim? They are not.

How could the teacher not notice a student was drowning during the class? And how could they not notice someone was in the bottom of the pool at the end of class? Is the teacher in the pool or standing at the side of the pool during PE class?

Tragic.
Kate please stop. That kind of knee jerk reaction is why we have many of the problems we have today.

Kate: Wow, what do you think would happen if there were no FREE swim classes during PE? How many MORE drownings would occur? Not all households can afford swim lessons and/or frequent enough pools/lakes etc to have learned.
And quite insensitive of you. Sad!
