Where are the tree squirrels now?

Original post made by Paulette, Val Vista, on Mar 11, 2018

I use to be concerned that there aren't any more ground squirrels in Val Vista; but, now, I've noticed there aren't hardly any ordinary tree squirrels either, it seems. I saw a very skinny squirrel running across the street about a week or so ago; but, I haven't seen squirrels chattering in the trees or running on fences or in the trees in my yard. Where did they all go? I did see a blue bird and a goldfinch last week, though. That cheered me up. When I first moved here, there was so much wildlife in Val Vista. We had possums, raccoons, quail use to dust themselves in my yard under the broccoli plants. I see these ads for people who remove and kill squirrels. Why? I don't see them harming anyone? I use to see squirrels dead on the street all the time. Now, I hardly see anything dead on the street including squirrels. I wonder if they are eating rat bait or if people are hiring those people who kill them for money? Huh! I miss them. I'm sure this will generate more hate comments from the people who don't like them. The ground squirrels never did come back here. I miss hearing there little chirping noises when I walked my dog. Now i miss seeing the squirrels running up the trees or along the fences when I walk the dog. I miss the many blackbirds we use to have around here too; but, I was happy to hear a solitary blackbird singing today down by the creek. The first one i've heard down there in probably a few years now.

Come on over to the East Side, PLENTY of ground & tree critters! It's also mating season apparently, so just wait 30-45 days...
