The death of a student in the Dublin Unified School District is being investigated by the Alameda County Public Health Department, health officials told the school district Friday.

School district officials posted a notice of the investigation and a statement of their own Friday at 4:38 p.m. on Facebook.

The student who died went to Kolb Elementary School at 3150 Palermo Way in Dublin.

“Based on our investigation, we do not believe that members of the Kolb Elementary School community were exposed on site or are at risk for getting this disease from the ill student,” heath department officials said.

“We do not recommend any specific preventive actions at this time to the Kolb Elementary School community.”

School district officials said they offer their sincere condolences to the family and the Kolb Elementary School community.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news, and we extend our deepest sympathy to the child’s family and loved ones, as well as the entire Kolb Elementary School community,” school district officials said in a statement.

The name of the child has not been released and school district officials are referring requests for further information to the health department.

School district officials said starting Tuesday morning counselors will be available to staff and students who need help coping with the death.

The counselors will be available all week.

  1. Was this related to the flu that is going around? Or something E Coli related?

Why did Dublin Unified then post on their Facebook page shortly after this for people to routinely wash their hands?

Also why has the Pleasanton Weekly not covered the pedestrian fatality with the Federal Express driver running over the woman in Dublin a few days ago and killing her? This was covered in the Patch.

  2. The early morning after the DUSD announced the student’s death of Facebook around 4:30 pm they posted this at 7:38 am

Just saw this on the national news and thought it a good reminder on how to help keep students healthy:

    – Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after changing diapers, using the toilet, or coughing or blowing your nose.
    – Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
    – Avoid close contact such as kissing, hugging, or sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick.
    – Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper shirt sleeve, not your hands.
    – Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.
    – Stay home when you are sick.

Start a hand washing challenge at home! Challenge your children to wash multiple times at home and at school with soap and see who can win!

Why did DUSD post this right after the student’s death was announced?

Why doesn’t the Pleasanton Weekly call the public health department and get more information on what happened?

  3. The health dept quote says “this disease” implying they know what disease this child had. So why is it being treated like a mystery?

  4. A child died. Apparently from a contagious disease. How is it not the public’s right to know? As a person with immune issues, like many children, relatives and teachers, I would refuse to enter the school until I knew.
