The city recently installed a plaque in remembrance of Gail Turner at the intersection where the 72-year-old Pleasanton cyclist was killed after a vehicle struck her as she rode across the street on June 23, 2016.

Located in a rock feature just off the sidewalk on the northwest corner of where Stanley Boulevard crosses Valley/Bernal avenues, the plaque comes amid a variety of new bicycle and pedestrian safety enhancements at the intersection inspired by Turner’s death.

“The city offered to install the plaque in honor of Gail Turner, who was an avid cyclist and beloved member of our community, as a way to honor her memory,” city spokeswoman Tracy Dunne said.

  1. What happened to the driver who struck her? I drive by there almost everyday. several days or weeks after the incident, I saw an elderly gentleman attaching the white bike to the street rail, as an memorial for her. It is very sad.

  2. Since no major news story on the details came of the accident. my guess is that the driver was not completely at fault. Else if the driver was at fault I suspect we would have heard a lot more outcry over this.

  3. Driver pleaded his wife had a difficult pregnancy and had to be escorted to regular dr visits, then proceeded to go on a cocaine fueled bender in Dubai.
