A 59-year-old Pleasanton woman was killed in a rollover crash on Niles Canyon Road in Fremont on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
The woman, identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as Frances Pagliocca, initially rear-ended another vehicle as both vehicles were traveling east on Niles Canyon Road shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.
Bosques said witnesses said it appeared that Pagliocca was trying to pass the other vehicle and her car had been weaving.
Bosques said the collision caused the driver of the other vehicle to lose control and go down an embankment near a creek.
The driver and a passenger in the second vehicle suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening, Bosques said.
Pagliocca didn’t help the victims who were injured but instead sped off east on Niles Canyon Road and a short time later wandered into the westbound lanes and swerved to avoid hitting a westbound vehicle, according to Bosques.
Pagliocca’s car then went off the road, went up an embankment, went airborne and landed on its roof, Bosques said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bosques.
The section of Niles Canyon Road where the crashes occurred was closed until about 7 p.m. Monday, according to Bosques.
