The district reporting on the survey is breathtakingly disingenuous.

Let's report the REAL results of the survey:

1. "But only 23% of all survey-takers marked “agree” or “strongly agree” in response to the statement, “There is transparent communication from the district.”"

So 77% of survey respondents either "disagree" or "strongly disagree" or n/a that the district is transparent. This is HUGE and goes directly to how people view honesty in quasi-government agencies.

2. “The district is fiscally responsible” prompted 27% to mark a positive response..."

Fully 73% of respondents marked a negative response.

3. "30% of respondents agreed, “The district is heading in the right direction.”

Once again, 70% disagree that the district is heading in the right direction.

The vast majority of end-users is widely dissatisfied with the district. Yet we keep getting the cheerleaders on this board that keep on wanting to give this agency MORE money while at the same time LESS transparency and accountability.

We parents clearly see what's going on. Now if anyone from the board is reading this, please speak up and tell us what you are going to do to address the dissatisfaction.

Dan, The board received the report; the district didn't conduct the survey; the reporter wrote the story.

"vast majority . . . widely dissatisfied" - ahem - 1,013 isn't a vast majority. It certainly is an indicator of a problem though.

Here is the link to the two very in-depth reports provided to the board: Web Link You have to scroll down to just above Item 14.2

You know, for those who are so unhappy and they don't run for the board you can always move. A better district is just up the road. Wouldn't need to move far. Of course, then nothing to complain about.

Kathleen,

"vast majority . . . widely dissatisfied" - ahem - 1,013 isn't a vast majority."

Hillary Clinton thought the same thing...

"It certainly is an indicator of a problem though."

Obviously.

The significant disparity between administrators' perception and that of parents, staff and the community confirms how out of touch they are. Therein lies the cause of predominately low survey scores. This is the result of years of poor leadership and cannot be fixed simply by hiring the right superintendent. Other senior leaders, including Odie Douglas, need to go.

Replacing APT leadership would also go a long way in healing what ailes the District. Survey results validate that parents and teachers are aligned on most issues.

Bay Area Native: You are completely wrong when you say "Odie Douglas needs to go". He is the most hard working, honest man in the District.

In the know,

Read my post. I did not question Odie's integrity or his work ethic.

Odie may be the most hard working and honest PERSON (man or women) in the District. Jimmy Carter was a hard working an honest President.

Have you looked at the survey results? Effort alone doesn't cut it with numbers that are that dreadful and that out of touch with the other groups (parents, teachers, staff and community). Odie, along with other senior leaders, are responsible and they need to be held accountable (fired).

Mark Miller is the only trustee quoted in the story and he mentions he's looking for a "critical thinker." I wholeheartedly disagree! Mark, we need somebody who will follow the direction of the Board who was voted into office to carry out the desires of the community! We need someone who can stand up to the Union, and balance the needs to pay good teachers, while at the same time tackle crumbling facilities... That's it! Those two things combined with a very large dose of transparency!
