A 22-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle into oncoming traffic in an attempt to evade law enforcement.
According to Pleasanton police, the arrest stemmed from an incident that began around 10:30 a.m., when an officer patrolling the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 3112 Santa Rita Road noticed a suspicious vehicle that had been reported stolen.
Within a few minutes, the officer observed four individuals walk toward the car, get in and drive off. As the car turned north onto Santa Rita Road, the officer initiated a traffic stop but the driver did not comply and continued north at a high rate of speed, according to a statement from Sgt. Erik Silacci.
As the car approached Pimlico Drive, it drove across the center median and into oncoming traffic on the eastbound I-580 off ramp. That prompted Pleasanton police officers to end their pursuit of the car out of public safety concerns, Silacci said.
The car drove approximately a quarter mile the wrong direction on I-580 before stopping on the shoulder. All four occupants then got out of the car and began running toward Rosewood Drive, according to police.
Officers responded and immediately detained three of the car’s occupants, all of whom were juveniles. The fourth outstanding suspect, 22-year-old Roberto Razo, was seen running into a storage facility in the area.
Officers set up a perimeter and used a police K-9 unit to locate Razo hiding in the facility. He was arrested without further incident for possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer while driving into opposite traffic, resisting arrest and child endangerment, Silacci said.

The per capita crime rate in Pleasanton was about twice as high about 25 years ago when I first came to Pleasanton in the 90’s. Look up the statistics yourself in the PPD Annual Report. Pleasanton crime rates have trended downward over the long term. It’s natural for many people to think that things were so much better “back in the good old days”, but an examination of the facts often shows that that’s just nostalgia and not reality.
One reason I don’t go to Walmart. I have shopped there online, though. I am concerned about rising crime in our fair city, and I am betting it’s because of the low income housing the city has been forced to build, and mass transit. I’m not saying they are not nice people, but many have problems. I have lived in low income areas.
Criminals come from out of town to crime at the mall. It is still a wonderful place to live, and I am blessed to be able to stay here after retirement. I would like to know what the Mayor thinks, and what the Ptown PD is allowed to do to fight increasing crime.

I have to halfway agree with you on you comment. However, as a young woman who grew up here in Pleasanton and got to experience all the small and major changes your comment is only slightly true. I also, have a bit of an insider perspective because my family has always been connected with local law enforcement both as friends and family.
And also, now that I am in my unfortunate situation after leaving my abusive Husband it is nice to be able to come back to Pleasanton and know that my daughter can grow up in a beautiful and safe environment like I did because Pleasanton offers below market rate options for people (you have to be able to pay everything on your own there is no type of assistance for below market rate housing- all it is; is a program with reduced rent prices i.e.-instead of paying 2700 for an apartment a person might only pay 2300 a month and there are very strict guidelines for the program). I never understood the program and to be honest most of the riff- raff your talking about are people on Section 8 which is totally government assistance. Other people who live here and are part of below market rate apartments/homes programs are possibly very educated people with good careers like myself but have fallen on hard times financially but want to live in Pleasanton.
Sorry, to be hyper sensitive to your comment but, not all people are bad and like you said these people are coming from out of town usually.
Dear Blessed Mommy, I am glad you left your abusive coward of a husband who did not deserve you and should be in jail. I have spent a lot of time in the area myself. We lived in Emeryville in a tiny duplex for 2 yrs and it was cheap back then [1970], but I made $1.65 an hour, [min wage] and worked hard to get to $2 before I joined the Navy, which was paying recruits almost nothing, $50 a month. When I got out of the Navy and got a Union job we moved to Livermore and rented a decent 3 and 2, until we borrowed from my wife’s family to buy a house. We were only in it a year, had our 2nd child, when she left me for my best friend and took everything. She did not ask for alimony though, she got a job, and I always paid child support on time.
I moved to a 3 and 2 in Val Vista in 75 and began to relive my college days with a beautiful girlfriendwho also grew up here. I had learned that real estate went up though, and in 79 sold my 65 Corvette Stingray convertible to buy a house in Dublin for my fiancee and self.Lived there 10 years and moved to East Co Co County [Oakley] to a new house. I built my own fences and gates, did a lot of work myself. After about 10 years the whole area was starting to go downhill, and after 3 more yrs it was pretty bad. Our house was beautiful, on a court, I had done a lot of work myself. We got top dollar for it in 03 and were able to move back to Ptown to a real fixer-upper. It needed every single thing, top to bottom, and we went high dollar. I had to hire contractors but again I did a lot of work myself.
It was awesome, but we found out we could’t afford to live there after the crash hit us in 12. We had to give up half our stuff, but we relocated to a very nice townhome complex, and now it’s done and we are very happy here. I have never really noticed much crime in Ptown after the places I’ve been, I just hope it stays nice here for all of us.Real Estate has helped us a lot; we have been married 37 yrs and plan to stay here. I am blessed to be retired here. The wife will soon follow.
