Dave Walden, a well-known Pleasanton civic leader and real estate mortgage and sales training professional, died last Friday at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital. He was 69.
Mr. Walden was self-employed as a communication facilitator and sales training expert who also was a certified mortgage planner, long associated with Diversified Mortgage Group in Pleasanton.
He also had served as chairman of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and president of the Pleasanton North Rotary Club. In recent years, he also had worked with Cheri Tree in a system called B.A.N.K., a system to promote effective sales methods. His volunteer work even extended to San Francisco where he served as one of 350 guides on walking tours of that city.
Born in Hamilton, Ohio, Mr. Walden was a graduate of Santa Clara High School and San Francisco State University before moving to Pleasanton. Later he joined Maureen, Rudy and Mike Lopez in their home in Castro Valley, where he was living at the time of his death.
Although he had been ill for several months, it was only three weeks ago that doctors diagnosed his condition as Stage IV cancer of the esophagus and stomach.
He is survived by a cousin, Gregg Hollenbaugh, and his close friend Marilyn Ponte Grutman, who was with him when he died.
No funeral services were held, but friends are planning a memorial service in the near future.
Dave was a very special guy with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by so many. I always enjoyed his company. RIP Dave

Very sad to learn of David’s passing. I knew David when I attending the Marketing Meetings in Pleasanton
during the year Gina Piper Chaired the group meetings. He was always very cordial.
I first met Dave 17 years ago when I bought my first Acura and he was a Service Advisor for Acura of Pleasanton. He was always kind. He will be missed.
RIP Dear Friend. You always made me smile at Rotary, Chamber and there are so many great memories of laughter. You will be missed and always remembered.

I knew Dave from attending Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce mixers and events. He always had a smile, a warm word, and listened to you. He will be missed in this community.

So sorry to hear about Dave’s passing. He and I often traded stories, trends and general information about the mortgage industry and its direction while we were both in the mortgage business. Dave was a good person. RIP

Sad news indeed. Dave was a great guy, always volunteering, helping out, lending an ear…and a leader as well. Our city has lost a fine man. RIP Dave. Prayers and thoughts to his family as those of us who had a chance to work with him, know him and enjoy being around him will miss him.
