Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Foothill girls’ varsity soccer team finished out the regular season with a 1-0 win over Amador Valley, giving the Falcons a season sweep of the Dons and sending the team into the North Coast Section playoffs with some momentum.

The week did start slowly as the Falcons fell 2-1 to San Ramon Valley last Tuesday, giving up a late goal.

The Falcons played a gritty match from start to finish and actually took a 1-0 lead when Sarah Mirr sliced through the Wolves mid field and found Tami Kwong who made a strong move into the scoring area and laced a shot past the Wolves keeper. The Wolves answered 6 minutes later leaving the game knotted 1-1 at halftime.

The second half had San Ramon controlling play for the most part, putting pressure on the Falcons backline throughout the half.

The backline, which has played well for the last several weeks, held up until the 75th minute when a Wolves attacker had an open run at the net before crossing the ball to a waiting teammate making it 2-1. The Falcons played well enough to earn a draw, but came up short in the end.

Two days later it was rivalry time to end the regular season. It was a nice night for Senior Night, giving the Falcons a chance to recognize their six seniors who would be playing their last regular season game.

The Falcons were tested throughout the match by Amador, as the Dons were the aggressor and more physical throughout the match. There were not a lot of scoring chances in the first half, but the Falcons finally struck when in the 40th minute Ariana Nino served up a corner to Kwong, who deflected the ball into the net just before the end of the half.

The second half was much of the same as both squads battled primarily in the midfield, but neither team could find the back of the net.

BASKETBALL

To open the week last Tuesday, the Foothill boys’ basketball team played host to the always tough De La Salle. The Spartans came in on top of the league, but the Falcons played them tough in the first half.

The Spartans finally took over in the second half, scoring 19 in the third and closing out with 23 in the fourth quarter for the 65-46 final score.

Seth Cobb had 16 points for the Falcons, the only Foothill player to get to double figures. Sam Novitske and Garrett Wrenn finished with seven each.

The second game of the week saw Foothill travel to Granada to face a Matador team that beat Falcons on their home court earlier in the year.

This time it was another battle, but Foothill found a way to win, pulling out a 57-55 thriller.

Wrenn was the force under the basket, scoring 19, while Cobb turned in his usual efficient game adding 13. Sophomore Michael Smith added seven, including two in the crucial fourth quarter.

  1. A little disappointed.
It’s nice to see the local high school sports covered, but it seems to always be about Foothill.

Nothing about Amador wrestling beats Foothill 72 to 3 to win back to back EBAL titles.

  2. @Lessismore…

Isn’t it painfully clear that Dennis loves sports and he will write about all school sports? But he has a real day job… this PW gig doesn’t pay his mortgage. If you want your school sport featured in his column, send him an email with the deets. A village works because of participation, not whining.

  3. Wrestling? As Send Dennis News said….if you want your kid, sport, etc mentioned and talked about….do something about it. Dennis went to Amador….his kids went to Foothill. One thing Dennis doesn’t have…..bias.

  4. To the ones I seem to of offend
To start with I have no kids on the wrestling team at Amador or any other team at Amador.
I simply made a comment. I also said it’s great to see high school sport covered.

As for the comment about participation, not whining.

I would be glad to discuss my participation with both time and money to PUSD and Pleasanton.

    To Dennis
If my post appeared to mock what you are doing I’m very sorry, that was not my intent.
