Did anyone attend the planning meeting the other evening? What was the outcome?

I understand it is early in process and the Environmental report has not even been completed. Should be a number of public hearings next year for folks to come out. As with many projects, there will be pros and cons to weigh.
What is wrong with Costco? There are many who drive 14-16 miles to go to Costco in Livermore or Danville. Having a local store could reduce this traffic and be convenient. Costco pays emplyees well and could provide jobs for some of our kids. Was told it could bring in $2M a year in new revenues to the city. The site is right off freeway and zoned industrial already.
Lots of pros and cons and anxious to see all the facts.

When the city planning office introduces a Costco option to our residents, they have already thought it through and like it. But they don't represent us and they were not elected to office.
The people that are supposed to stand up and support local businesses like mine need to snip this in the bud. You know who you are - you said you would support local business Mr. Mayor and 3 of the council. If this moves forward you will be cutting off a major part of our income - and any money we gave you in past elections will be dried up and gone. You can go to their corporate HQ to see if anyone will give you a dime for your election campaign. I know I won't. Here is there address Costco, 999 Lake Dr. Issaquah WA 98027

All for it.
As for cutting into small business, big stores can't compete on service. Small businesses can thrive, the inventory and service must change as well.

I'd love a Costco too! It will save me from driving to Livermore!

Funny how some people think that having a Costco in this area will save them time not having to travel to San Ramon or Livermore I bet trying to get into that compact area will take you the same amount of time since the traffic in and out will be horrific. Think people think.

All for a Costco in town, tired of leaving my tax dollars in nearby towns, I support all our local businesses so a Costco gives me one more option to shop local!! If anybody wants to give us our movie theater back then that would get my vote as another option, or maybe a real nice high-end office building that would be a great personal space for our hard working zone 7 administrators and our greatly over-paid GM, maybe lots of gold leaf, valet parking, and their own Starbucks cafe.

Maybe I've been in a Costco once in twenty years. I'm a senior, and do not buy anything in lifetime sizes...not practical, and zero storage in a tight townhouse, I never did have a card, just not my thing.

A Costco in Pleasanton should help freeway traffic and the resulting air pollution if we don't have to get on the freeway to either go to San Ramon or Livermore. Besides that, additional sales tax revenue will be necessary to help pay for the much needed new library.

BEWARE!! The city is meeting with Costco and a Marriott branded hotel right now. As the project goes through the approval process and eventually gets to the council, you will hear what the neighbors heard last night--
"We have been working on this for years" and "It is time to approve this plan."
If you and other business owners don't stop this now - then it will be too late.
By the way, what is the Chamber of Commerce doing to protect the local businesses - NOTHING I bet. They put their pro-growth council in place with the "more is better" plan. I quit that worthless dues-collecting organization years ago. They never did anything for me other than phony ribbon cutting then dues collection.

@justwondering: "A Costco in Pleasanton should help freeway traffic and the resulting air pollution if we don't have to get on the freeway to either go to San Ramon or Livermore."
Not clear how much it would reduce freeway traffic. One thing that is clear is that it would greatly increase traffic on Pleasanton streets.

I love how every shell gas station in town has a sign protesting Costco coming - citing increased traffic as the reason. Really? Gas stations love increase traffic, it's prime gas station traffic. Why would they be opposed to a revenue generating opportunity????
Oh yeah....Costco sells cheaper gas. Ha ha. Competition is good.

How many of you people who don't want Costco had no problem with all the new high density housing going up near Bernal. Except for the weekends, the traffic in and out of Costco is not bad at all. As far as a drain on the city, very few police calls and less fire/medical calls. With the money Costco is bring in, the police and fire could hire one or two new officer(s) or firefighter(s) to handle the calls coming from the new housing.

@Mike -- darn you stole the words out of my mouth.
In general Pleasanton has gotten whacky in their planning - High density housing like Belvedere and in Hacienda, referendum to prevent building on a square ground level lot off between Foothill and 680 Freeway that was logical place to build houses, why should they build retail, it would make too much sense?
As fro protecting the small businesses, that means me subsidizing them through a mark up Tax.

Oh, it's a capitalist country all right. Just look at the egregious distribution of wealth.
What it is not, is a free market. The capitalists buy their local, state and federal governments so that they get freebies that working people can't.
If corporations are people, are people corporations? I'd like to write off all my expenses too.

The average Costco takes in over $164 million per year. That is a lot of tax dollars that are going to Livermore and San Ramon. Costco in Livermore is full most of the time. On the weekends, people are parking on the streets. What is wrong with a Costco no where near any residential neighborhood? Traffic? Who is affected by traffic on that street other than Club Sport folks? There can't be a lot of Pleasanton residents staying at the hotel. Black Tie comes to you, so now one is driving there. There are some businesses in there, but many of them would probably love to see more traffic.
Please someone explain to me where all the horrible traffic problems be or where they would come from?

Before you jump on the Costco bandwagon, go to a meeting and get informed. The plan is to widen Johnson and some of the freeway exit ramps. While the idea of a Costco may sound appealing, it will bring added expenditures (tax dollars), traffic to the Stoneridge area, and pollution. Not to mention the disruption it will cause to businesses that are currently located in that area.

Only businesses I see fighting this are shell gas stations. This is a no brainer, get it done

Bring on the Costco. We drive to San Ramon to avoid the crazy crowds in Livermore Costco which means our tax dollars are not only going to another city but into another county. A Costco in Pleasanton means my hard earned dough stays here. We can require Costco to have a percentage of Pleasanton residents as employees, it's done all the time in other cities. We'll strip some of those tax dollars from the commuters heading North into Contra Costa County on their way home and it will be a quick trip of 5 miles instead of 20 (less gas used, less pollution) for us Pleasantonians.

I am sure the Ptown Fan will be the first on line when Costco opens or he/she will likey spend those tax dollars in Livermore and San Ramon and show us how a real fan supports our city.

Love costco, not a fan of forced protectionism or entitlements (ie costco having to hire x% of Pleasanton residents )

Black Tie employees currently park along Johnson Dr. Adding a Costco would eliminate their ability to continue to do this. guess who black tie buys their gas from--Cox family fuel stations. Black Tie is unhappy--therefore Cox family fuel stations is unhappy.

The Cox family wants a monopoly in this area -- think I will boycott shell now - I remember when they funded another proposition trying to prevent a competitor from opening a gas station in two (was it prop M)
Boycott the shell stations if they do not want to support competition.

I stopped goingt o the Shell station on Hopyard and West Las Positas, not because of the reason mentioned above, but because thye have annoying tv screens on their pumps, and you can't turn off the sound. That in itsels will keep me away from that station. Forever!

You do have a Costco nearby. It's in Danville. It's only 14 minutes from my house in Pleasanton, so it can't be more than 10 minutes from yours in Dublin. Is 10 minutes too far?

If they put a Costco in Pleasanton it's going to take you at least 14 minutes to get there! The traffic will make it a longer drive than going to Livermore or San Ramon
