I haven't been keeping up with the news, but this is the first I've heard about extending bart farther east. Before they extend Bart farther, they really need to do something about the capacity that already exists. As it is, there is standing room only from Pleasanton all the way to the city and the city back out to at least Bay Fair until at least 8:00 at night. If I try to leave the city in the 5:00 - 6:00 timeframe, I may have to wait 40 - 45 minutes before I can physically get even a tiny place to stand on a train!

The extension does not go far enough.
It should be extended all the way to Patterson Pass Road.

So long as it doesn't do that original overhead rail system through the neighborhoods I'm all for it. Extend it along the freeway out to Paterson Pass.

Now that the 580 widening is finished its time to close it up again and bulldoze those miles of brand new concrete center barriers to make way for the new tracks and station, good planning BART and cal trans, very predictable, what a bunch of morons we taxpayers are!!! Where are those trains that were promised to us from day 1 that would be running at shorter intervals and those parking lots bought by us and SOLD by Bart!! Anybody who has ridden any other transit system in this country or any other country knows that Bart is broken and needs to be "fixed". Start at the top and clean house.

It starts with a change of the Bart board of directors. We all need to pay attention st the next election!!

Bart should consider
1) adding extensions
2) adding a 680 corridor line
- warms springs all the way out to Martinez (with stops in Pleasanton and walnut creek

3) Adding San Mateo and Marin county bonds to extend
bart around the bay

BART has the highest per-mile cost of any transit system in the US. The cost is roughly 2X the cost of a ticket - so the $5.95 ride to SF really costs about $12 with taxpayers picking up the difference.

72% of Bart's operating cost goes to labor. Wages, salaries, benefits, and pensions.

Eastside Pleasantonians desperately need Isabel BART...BEFORE Pleasanton resumes stacking apartments and townhouses along Stanley to Livermore city limits !! It IS costly transportation, but with poor long term planning leaving Pleasanton without a choice of decent circulation options, Isabel must happen sooner than later.
Yes, Sam is right, the excessive subsidies are strictly due to obscene, unnecessary operating costa, caused by very unrealistic unions that are totally out of line,....caused by bought-off politicians that allow this assault on the public.... for this necessity.

The comments vary with suggestions, but all understand the desperate need, NOW. So ASAP get on it...start working from Pleasanton to the East. Inching forward with every mile is better than nothing. Yes, it could go much farther East, and up to Walnut Creek, (since soon locala won't be able to fully utilize 680 North for daily non-working lives).
Check out Livermore's major apartment building in the Isabel area that is coming on line,. Pleasanton cannot absorb that traffic. period. We cannot survive that onslaught without BART.
