Detectives obtained a warrant yesterday for the arrest of a West Oakland man they suspect to be connected to a Saturday night shooting in Livermore that killed one man and wounded another, according to police.

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Jason Alexander Brown.

Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday Livermore police served a search warrant at Brown’s home in the vicinity of Center and Eighth streets with the assistance of the Oakland Police Department.

Oakland police also reported a standoff in that area around 1 a.m. after suspects in an unspecified crime reportedly barricaded themselves inside a residence.

Brown was not home at the time of the search, and he remained at large as of 7:30 a.m., according to Livermore police.

He’s considered armed and dangerous, police said, and investigators believe there is a second suspect who has not yet been identified.

Brown is suspected of shooting at a car in a Livermore parking lot Saturday evening. A man in his 20s died in the shooting and another man in his 20s was injured, according to police.

Police received multiple 911 calls at 6:05 p.m. regarding the shooting in the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy store at 1500 First St., according to police.

Upon arrival, officers found two people inside a parked car. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger, who is in his 20s, was taken to a hospital, according to police.

Police are withholding the identity of the deceased man, pending notification of his next of kin. Detectives have confirmed that neither of the victims are Livermore residents, police said.

Officers said two male suspects were seen driving a black 2006 BMW 325i with two red racing stripes on the hood with the license plate number 5PLR682, according to police.

Officers described Brown as a thin and tall black male, wearing a gray beanie, police said. He was armed with a long black gun, according to police.

Officers do not have a description of the other suspect, police said.

The suspects were seen driving out of the parking lot onto Railroad Avenue and California Highway Patrol officers last saw the vehicle in Oakland, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Livermore Police Department at (925) 371-4777.

  1. @Anna

I don’t think that driving west along I-580 to Oakland qualifies as driving “through Pleasanton” any more than it qualifies as driving “through Dublin” since Pleasanton and Dublin occupy opposite sides of I-580.

  2. The above posters should be ALL be ashamed of themselves.

I’m praying for the family and everyone who loved the young man that was killed. And for the young man who survived I pray that he recovers.

  3. @Benjamin: “I’m praying for the family and everyone who loved the young man that was killed. And for the young man who survived I pray that he recovers.”

You might want to reserve judgement and prayers until more facts come out. I haven’t seen any news story on this incident that identified who these two young victims are. For all we know, they could also be hoodlums in, say, a drug deal gone bad. Not saying that that’s what happened. Just saying that that’s within the range of possibilities for all we know right now. The only information I’ve seen on the young victims is that they are not from Livermore.

  4. Maybe he was on a mental break? Sure this is the Livermore police departments fault, not the shooters. Maybe he didn’t know it’s not OK to shoot someone. If no one told him it’s not his fault right?

  5. As I speculated, this Livermore shooting involved a drug deal gone bad. Found the following on a KTVU news page:

“Police say two pairs of men, one from Oakland, the other from the Central Valley, wanted to conduct a criminal transaction and decided to meet in the middle. And that ended up being the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy in downtown Livermore.”

“Man wanted in Livermore shooting linked to other homicides. It was about 6 p.m. Saturday when the two groups met in front of the store at 1500 1st St. The victims were in a Toyota Corolla, the suspects in a BMW with red racing stripes on the hood. But something went wrong, and one of the Oakland men pulled out a high-powered assault rifle and began firing at the victims as they sat in their car.”

“When it was over, a Latino man in his 20s was dead, and a second man was wounded. Late Monday, the two victims were identified. The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Jose A. Mendoza of Turlock. The other man, 22-year-old Ulizes Benitez of Turlock, remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital.”

  6. Obviously the criminals used Livermore as a neutral place to transact their drug deal gone bad. This crime has nothing to do with anyone living in or near Livermore. This does not mean Livermore is less safe than Pleasanton, Dublin, or anywhere else in the Tri-Valley.

  7. The shooting suspects, according to the report, drove through Pleasanton in their escape into the Oakland area.

Living in Pleasanton does not necessarily cause one to be safe.
We should all remain vigilant, so that we can be safe.
