I am sure this news that 500 people will lose their jobs in the oil business will make Democrats jump-for-joy.

No worries, however, since the wildly successful alternative energy industry that the Dems are funding (e.g. Solyndra) will gladly provide these Chevron employees the jobs they need.

Oh yes, how about all that alternative energy research in algae and kudzu as biofuels that our brilliant US Rep. Jerry McNerney says have such promise for America.

Just think of all these alternative energy jobs that are on their way!

How about Tesla there in Fremont? They get 400 million a year in taxpayer dollars. Have never made money and lose 200 million a quarter. Not to mention the cars are junk and have each been recalled at least 10 times.

By the way, those Chevron layoffs are just here. The jobs will be replaced when Checron opens its new headquarters in West Texas.

Obama rejected the Xl Keystone pipeline.

Reports in national media stated when Obama rejected the XL Keystone pipeline, he simultaneously rejected 42,000 jobs the XL Keystone pipe would have provided.

There are jobs here in the Bay Area, the trucking, shipping and handling of freight industry, is looking for 5,000 people to fill jobs in that industry, right here in the Bay Area.

The jobs, include drivers, fork lift operators, warehousing, scheduling and logistics people, supervisors, group leaders, it is a long list of jobs available.

Jerry, your Tesla assertions are absurd. There have been 2 recalls regarding Tesla. There have been two deaths reported in Teslas, an old man drove off a cliff on highway 1 and a car thief on a 100 mph joy ride on city streets in SoCal crashed into a pole.
There are a ton of jobs in that factory over the hill that are directly affecting our local economy in a positive way.

Was just at Tesla last week. When it was a Toyota Plant they built 450,000 units with 5000 team members per year. Now they build 36,000 units per year with 7500 employees. The entire second floor is now devoted to repair and recalls. All vehicles have had 11 recalls issued each. They are just junk and Musk is just a snake oil salesman. Ask a body guy how much to repair aluminum.

Go to NTHSA website and check for yourself. Consider yourselves warned.

Jerry again ABSURD. You know nothing. There are no 10 recalls listed for any Tesla on NHTSA. They are however 5 star crash rated across the board. You must be looking at Jeep or Chevy.

Yes as a matter of fact I have driven one and yes the ride is excellent and the fit and finish is top notch. They use laser aluminum which makes the paint quite smooth and the concept was good and ahead of its time but they waited to long to get to market and now Toyota and others have now introduced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles which will make the tesla obsolete.

Like I said earlier the base quality is very poor and inconsistent. Their manufacturing processes are 10 years behind other car makers and people systems of development are non existent. I am not opposed to anyone wanting to buy one but do some research first on recalls and the reasons for the recalls, manufacture field work orders, and service bulletins. I believe they will be like the DeLorean.

Actually jerry we are going to buy one but are waiting for the Tesla 3, we don't need such a large sedan and my roof will power my car as it does my home. 10 years behind? The inside of that factory is gorgeous with the most current automation and robotics, you could eat off the floor it is so immaculate. I worked inside the Nummi plant, dirty, dangerous and inefficient that is why it is gone. You speak of aluminum being difficult, what? Uh, Ford just switched to aluminum in the manufacture of their F150 in the new model, Lexus and other manufacturers are using more and more of it in their cars. Why? It's light, inexpensive, strong and the aluminum comes from the US unlike the majority of steel which now comes from China. Body shops? Don't care, the self driving intelligence and avoidance will and has lessened the need for such. What your hatred of Tesla is I really don't care but I am fully capable of countering any of your misleading aspersions with facts, truth and intelligence.

Eric...you're right on. Tesla's rock. I have one. Best car I've ever driven. Yes, I would be even more excited about Teslamotors, Inc. if it wasn't dependent on Fed funding. Better if they were a product of the private sector and I certainly hope they'll be profitable within the near future. Further, I am not even convinced that the ROI vs. gas-powered cars is there given Obama's destruction of the coal industry thus yielding skyrocketing electricity rates. I am just commenting that I love my Tesla.

Ford went to aluminum because of economist and it's a disaster. Very low payload and towing capacity. Trying to phase out. Check it out on edmunds.com

PP second floor is remanufacturing and they run two full shifts doing it plus Saturday's.

I think it's wonderful you are trying to build something new but don't lie to people. The Tesla 3 is 2 years behind its original SOP schedule. Why? Because of structural design problems. 7500-7800 people to build 36,000 cars a year is a problem. I wish you guys the best but do this with your eyes open.
