The city of Pleasanton has launched a newly designed website at cityofpleasantonca.gov.

“The city’s existing website was obsolete after 10 years, and it was time for a new look and to incorporate the many new enhanced features available today,” said City Manager Nelson Fialho.

He said that the new website, developed by Civica Software, focuses on meeting the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors accessing information about the city.

“Visitors to the new cityofpleasantonca.gov website will find a contemporary new look, quick access to services and information, transaction buttons to do business with the City, easier navigation, FAQ’s for each City department, a full staff directory, and integration with other social media outlets used by the city,” Fialho said.

Maria Ojeda, assistant to the city manager, directed the project, which took just under a year to complete.

“The former website averaged 170,000 page views per month,” she said. “We want to increase online traffic further with this new site, and expect that users of multiple interests will easily find information and connect with Pleasanton by subscribing to lists and developing personalized profiles to navigate to their favorite topics easily.”

“Our busiest page destinations such as the library, employment, police, and water utility will better serve web users with a new layout and responsive design for mobile users,” she added.

  1. Ok, and does anyone else wonder: what was the cost for the year long redevelopment project, and including the amounts paid to private company(s) for the effort? And how was this paid for?

    Yes I wonder too.

    I did a search on the website archives and I cannot find any information in the bid. There is a link, but it always comes up as a 404 error (doc not found).

    Anyone willing to bet it is in the high 5 digits maybe in the low 6?

    For a website. In Silicon Valley. In 2014.

    Haven’t read much from you lately. Every now and again it’s nice to hear from the real smart ones like you. /sarc 🙂

    I read just about everything you write and I wonder: what is it like for someone to be so wrong, so often?

    Your snarkiness regarding someones online name is so juvenile as to be sad. I mean really, elementary school-yard stuff. It’s doesn’t even rise to the level of middle school snarkiness of that famous sock-puppet Dogfather Tom (who recently came out of his sock, btw).

    Hey here’s an idea: try finding out how much the website cost (I tried) and get back to us. If it is in the 5 figures I assumed, then you can tell me how great it was that the city paid that much money for something I could get done for somewhat less than $7.5k.

    Gee, Dan, all those words and sentences and the end result is that you’ve still offered ZILTCH to back up YOUR insinuation that the city of Pleasanton acted improperly in this matter. As for finding out how much the website cost, sorry but I think that you must have mistaken me for your lapdog. I have neither the time nor interest in investigating every harebrained accusation that you’re able to dream up. YOU made the accusation, so YOU provide the evidence to back up your claim. The burden of proof belongs to you, not me.

    Yeah, well thanks to “avail”, we now know that the total cost for setting up the site including software and migration costs was $93,215. As for your claim that you could have done it all for just $7.5K, there is one of two possibilities: (1) The city of Pleasanton was just outrageously ripped off and overcharged by over 10-times the proper cost of setting up the new website, or (2) you’re a total fool for suggesting that you could set up an entirely new city of Pleasanton website for only $7.5K. Guess which answer I think is right?

    I helped spec and program manage my companies website for…wait for it…$6k and change.

    That included the online store, security, customer service integration and migration. It is by no means a difficult job anymore.

    One of your posters, named “Formerly Dan from BC” believes that the city of Pleasanton was just ripped off and paid over 10-times the proper cost of setting up its new website. This sounds like the subject for a great investigative story by the Pleasanton Weekly into a case of gross corruption and/or incompetence by the city management. Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking “How do we know that this ‘Formerly Dan from BC’ isn’t some blowhard, ignorant fool like a lot of our other posters?” Well, it’s because this person is a TECH EXPERT and…. wait for it … he says that he could design the city’s website for LESS THAN $7.5K!!! That’s 10-times LESS than what the city just paid!!! Looking forward to reading the investigative story.
