Upset about the new school calendar??? Check here!!!

Original post made by Upset about new school calendar?????, Bonde Ranch, on May 30, 2014

If you are concerned about the new school calendar, voice your opinion at the next board meeting which is on Tuesday, June 3rd. Why weren't parents polled like teachers? Yes we were given the option to send an email and attend information sessions, which I do appreciate. But why weren't parents polled the same way teachers were? Why weren't we asked to fill out a survey through email?

Come to the meeting and let your voice be heard. If you don't show, they won't know your opinion. Then you only have yourself to blame if the new calendar is passed.

There was all kinds of information sent out and opportunities to express your opinion. Every school board meeting is open and you have an opportunity to discuss whatever you feel like. I assume that you attended the meeting last Tuesday and made you voice heard. Did you bring in a petition signed by hundreds or thousands of parents? I vote for school board members to make these decisions and don't feel we need some sort of survey every time a decision is made. First off, to do an actual scientific survey would require a lot of money. Just imagine if the district wanted to spend $20,000 to do a survery, you would be the first person to say they are all idiots. An unscientific survey is exactly what they did by having meetings requesting feedback and you can always email or phone the school board.

I am glad you posted this. There really has not been all kinds of information sent out. A few emails regarding meetings. It is true, most of the time a survey is not needed for every decision, but one that will affect thousands of families, their works schedules, childcare, downtown businesses summer revenue, surrounding cities & our city summer classes offered...and much more, a survey should be required for a big change like that. Instead...we got a survey, that took 30 minutes to set up online- for FREE- asking us about homework & nutrition. So..we were surveyed about our child's homework & food they might be served, but not something so big as changing & uprooting schedules for all of the families in Pleasanton who have children enrolled in our schools.
