New Leaf Community Markets Donates 1/4 Ton of Poultry to Food Bank

Original post made by Patti Bond, Vineyard Avenue, on Jan 28, 2014

New Leaf Community Markets and its partner MBA Poultry, the producer of Smart Chicken, have donated a total of 3.7 tons of poultry to area food banks. 530 pounds were donated to the Alameda County Community Food Bank 2,850 pounds to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, and 4,040 pounds to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County. The 3.7 ton donation is a 12% increase over last year.

This is the first year that New Leaf's Pleasanton store at 3550 Bernal Ave has participated in the Smart Giving program at New Leaf. Through the program, for every ten pounds of air-chilled Smart Chicken purchased by New Leaf customers during November, one pound of Smart Chicken is donated by New Leaf to a local food bank.

"We are also very appreciative of our customers for joining with us to make this annual effort for the food bank such a success," said Scott Roseman, co-owner, New Leaf Community Markets. "And we are very grateful for MBA Poultry's generous support of those in need in our community."

Since 2006, 16.7 tons of Smart Chicken has been donated to area food banks by New Leaf and MBA Poultry, who is dedicated to producing the safest, highest quality, and best tasting fresh chicken in the United States.

Does a frozen chicken weighing 3 lbs. weight less when it's unfrozen?

Daveg is a registered user.

Frozen meat weighs the same as it will when it's defrosted. ... After it's cooked, it will weigh less, but freezing and defrosting does nothing

Hey lets not forget Fresh and Easy-they donate about the same or more to the local food bank. Especially last week when they switched over their markdowns. Took two trucks at times to pick everything up from the store.
