The story says that the witness described the suspect as a "white male", so "white male" it is.

Lots of individuals resemble folks from various racial/ethnic groups. The description is a start.

I live at Civic Square and have not seen nor heard anything from the complex management or any crime prevention unit. Obviously it is time to invest in that firearm. I had been putting it off, but if the police can do noting after 4 burglaries in the same complex, it is time to be prepared. I guess the saying is true - when seconds count, the police are 30 minutes away. Actually they are a block away, which makes this situation all the more troubling.

Don't try laying the blame on the Pleasanton police. I don't know how long you've been living in this town, but they do not take 30 minutes to respond to a call. More like a few minutes.

If you wish to purchase a gun, then purchase a gun. No need to trash the PPD.

But seriously though, the police are usually too late to really be of any use in a situation like this and true justice is rarely seen. Stolen items are rarely returned. A slap on the wrist if you are lucky.

Get that gun, and practice using it. A shotgun is nice for home defense. This maggot may have lockpicking skills, a master key or duplicates so it might be wise to change the locks. He could also be someone with a connection to a current or past tenant or apartment staff.

Don't expect the police to save you when faced with an intruder.

It wasn't meant as a shot at PPD - It is a good police department unlike other areas of the bay area. And, to be fair, they do come when a possible crime in progress is reported - unlike other city PD's. Still, they can't be everywhere at once in this rapidly growing town. They are just as overworked dealing with domestic disputes and other mediation type calls than to be able to protect against an intruder. It's just that I realized that the small town I knew and felt safe in is different - well, everything changes I guess. Looks like I have to change with it.

If you don't plan to be trained properly re: how to load/fire a gun and care for a gun, then don't get one.

It's worth the time to have proper training just in case you need one. It could save your life and the lives of your loved ones.

More than likely the suspect(s) knock 1st to see if anyone is home? This type of knock/check method, has been mentioned b4 on the forums. Could it be a sales person trying to sell u something? or a crook casing out your place?

I see neighborhood crime watch signs posted in various parts of the city, but wonder how active these groups are? People should always keep an eye out for unusual activity/vehicles. Jot down what you see i.e. time/date/clothing/vehicle make/model/color/plate. It may be nothing, but the info you have may be very helpful in catching some dirtbag.

Long ago the place where I lived with roommates was burglarized. They filed a police report and the insurance paid and we got a new TV.

If we had confronted and shot the burglar we would have gone though an investigation and possibly a trial, maybe for the burglar or maybe for the person who did the shooting, or maybe the burglar could have grabbed the gun and done the shooting, who knows how it might have worked out.

Having insurance and getting a new TV was a much better option, and so is calling the police if you see the burglar.

Well, maybe if you aren't home but what about the woman that is tortured and raped when a home invasion occurs? What is the payout for that worth? What if it was your mother or daughter being brutalized and possibly killed? Would you want them to just let the insurance co. replace their vaginas and memory banks?

So you'd call the police after seeing a thief in your house? He'd probably beat or shoot you and leave before they arrive.

If you confronted or shot and killed the filthy thief, who's going to testify in a trial? Their Momma? Their Homeboys? I won't worry about it, hell you could write a book about it. These aren't upstanding members of society that are commiting these crimes. More and more home invasions are violent and confrontational with the culprits wanting more items like cars and bank accounts. If you are weak or too busy sleeping then by all means just hide and call State Farm later Lol!
