This appears to be part of a large apartment complex.
Q. When was the building built, and did it have fire sprinklers?
Did it have smoke detectors? Was anyone home when it started?
Judging from the story and the pictures, the fire spread all thru the apartment, and scorched the areas above the windows in front, and the underside of the second floor landing above the entry door.
Looks like the Fire Department was able to stop this from spreading.
As of Jan 1, 2011 any new home, apartment, or hotel would be required to be fire sprinklered, as well as have smoke detectors audible thru out.
