Is there any information (job description/responsibilities) available regarding each position and each committee?
....still time for Miller to sign up to gain seriously needed community learning and serving experience. He would still have a long way to go to equal the 20 years of experience and service of Kathy Narum.
I wonder if there are any qualified Senior Citizens who want to serve?
All of the fighting at the higher level, guess no one wants to work with the bullies on the council.
It is not just the council, but the management. This is caused by behavior of the top administration of the city.
A hostile work environment is a form of harassment that effects everyone. It is demonstrated by such severe and pervasive conduct that
permeates the work environment and interferes with any commissioner's, elected official's, or employee’s ability to perform his or her job, and effects the citizens as well.
Can someone tell me why anyone would want to be on a commission when the politicians over ride the commissioner's decisions anyway?
Take measure PP, the council of 3 ignored all of the work that the planning commissioners did on about 5 different issues and voted opposite. They ignored their own team and instead voted to weaken PP.
Since they all 3 campaigned against PP, it is no surprise.
pretty is as pretty does...
Some people need to get their facts straight. If some of your views, politics, previous Community activity or volunteer experience background does not meet with the Mayor's; (and Heaven forbid if you are running for or interested in running for a Council seat) you most likely will not get appointed to a Commission. Being on a Commission or Committee is seen as a step to City Council once your political activism is out there. It is seen as a threat to the powers that be! Just ask former Mayor Ken Mercer. He once said one of his fairest and biggest mistakes was appointing, then no growth activist, Ben Tarver to the Planning Commission (even tho his views for the City, were the opposite of Mercer's.) Ben Tarver went on to become a City Council member and Mayor as part of the NO Growth DREAM TEAM; made up of Tom Pico and Becky Dennis. Pico and Dennis eventually became VERY PRO GROWTH in later years.
what a bunch of whiners...if you choose not to run who cares?
i don't care and nobody i know cares what you do...take a hike!
Thanks for the history lesson, but the only people that have time for this stuff are stay at home moms, part timers, and retired folks. The commissions are full of them.
If you have to go to work like me, you don't have time for a job that doesn't pay $$$.
I am one year new to the City of Pleasanton and love this community. I have previously sat as a Commissioner for the City that I have relocated from. I considered it an honor and a responsibility to serve my community. I was invited to sit on the commission by a council person who recognized by abilities as an asset, not a vote. Which by the way, required a majority vote from the entire City Council to be appointed. In the time I served, the commission along with the paid City staff made strides that affected the people of the City in positive growth and well being. It was also required that the Commissioners be paid $25.00 for their monthly service.
I'm saddened by the above remarks toward those who are serving as commissioners or as part of the City Council, this is a very narrow minded view of those who choose to serve regardless of their employment, age, or choice to stay home and raise their children. At the time I served I was a busy owner/operator of a growing business, and my fellow commissioners we also busy and gainfully employed.
In all places where people gather there is going to be conflict and/or self promotion. I would challenge all nay sayers to step up. Either strive to step up and be part of the fix, show up to the Council meetings, get involved, all have an invitation to be heard. Or you can continue to grow in the saddened state of apathy and be part of the problem that promotes finger pointing and pulling down instead of building up. This is for your welfare and that of generations to come.
