The Pleasanton City Council needs to stay out of this. They need to take care of the City not private businesses.

Castlewood is not even in the city of Pleasanton. It is in the county.

Citizens have the right to petition their government for support. The council has already passed a resolution requesting both parties settle this dispute in a manner equitable for both sides.
Castlewood decided not to follow this advice and now are paying dearly.
It's about time the Castlwood members wake up and recognize that their board has led them off a cliff. They should have listened to the City Council from the beginning.

Whether it's the dispute concerning the workers, the dispute with area residents over water issues, etc., the Club's anachronistic, self-interested approach helps neither the Club, its members, nor those who interact with the Club.

Unreal. My husband and I have our own company, we now have to pay $300 a month more for health care, an extra $1,200 a year and $50 copays insted of $20. The Union people should be going after the health care system. We had to charge employees more for health care or fire them...........The union did not give Castlewood a choice. Pleasanton Council needs to stay out of this. Castlewood members are hard working people with budgets just like the rest of the world.

This "non profit" made 64 mil a year in its heyday. Now it's down to 10 mil a year. They seriously can't afford to pay employees more for health care?

CCC is a private organization, what they do with ANY money from their proceeds is used at their discretion and is mostly funneled into little things like repair and maintenance of their roads & streets (not city maintained roads, remember?) landscaping of the grounds & golf course, maintenance & upkeep of the clubhouse & its facilities, security, etc.

I love how the liberal mindset of wealth re-distribution never wavers whether it's on a national, state, local or even private level.

Why do so may people confused the issue. The judge ruled that Castlewood locked out the workers and did not continue to negotiate a contract. It's not about healthcare or wages it's about fair barganing. Castlewood does not have to agree with the union terms they only need to continue to bargan in good faith.

City Council stay the hell out of private business, you are doing just a fair job of running the City,you can't handle anymore than what you have, besides what do you know about running a business.

If I walked off my non-union job because I thought I wasn't getting paid enough or getting enough benefits, I would be fired. How come a union employee thinks they can walk off the job and then get their job back after they are fired? The whole idea of unions is to give workers some additional leverage in negotiations. It is not intended to give unions workers unlimited power and control over a company. If the market is flush with job seekers and the company thinks they can more cost effectively replace their entire workforce than give into the demands of the union, then let them. The unions should be aware that if they strike, there is a possibility they will loose their job and be replaced. That's the way it should be. Sometime a strike will work and sometimes it will backfire. Without this possibility, the unions would effectively have unlimited power. In this case, they lost. They should now focus on finding another job.

Maybe someone should ask Mr. Sullivan about his views on the golf course actually in Pleasanton and one that he has management input, Callippe. The workers are non-union and their wage and health benefits are not close to what has been offered the union members at Castlewood!!

The Callipe workers haven't voted to unionize. Castlewood workers did. Do you see the difference? If calippe votes for a union and councilman Sullivan doesn't support them, you have a very valid point. Before posting, please try to understand the process.

The issue is not union vs. non-union. Sullivan says Castlewood is the bad guy because they won't pay a fair wage and offer fair benefits. Yet, at the same time the City is paying Callippe much less than what was offered at Castlewood. Seems a bit hypocritical.

Good point. No one should say that CCC isn't/wasn't paying a fair wage.
But they are required by law to allow their employees to collectively bargain, and that's where they got into trouble, and are open to criticism.

Like many other posters here, I never read much in my earlier years. I don't no anything about how the law works, what are the legal foundations of collective bargaining, how the question of whether to be unionized or not is up to workers, whats the porpose of the NLRB. Then the Democrat party decided to put a Kenyan socialist muslum into office. Now I no enough to hate Democrat liberals (there all sick) and unions that are the scurge of our nation. BTW, I may be losing my scab labor position at a very prestegeous country club. Does any body have any suggestions on where a loyal scab like me can find a job?

Well if you are a Wal-Mart shopper and have a Asian built auto, then you can go work at Wal-Mart with their minimum wage jobs that do not give enough hours to entitle someone to qualify for medical benefits.

However, if you do not shop Wal-Mart and own an American made vehicle then yes, I truly do hope you will get a good job. If you are smart and personable then go work at a restaurant that you can get tips at. Or better yet, study to become a bartender.

This exactly what happened in Greece, and the EU is about to let Greece crumble....they were dumb to allow the socialist unions to run the country. Unions operate with zero personal integrity. Right now, our city is still conning us. There has not been any fix. When the unions have power over the people, they ultimately destroy the people. I may not have my facts completely straight. Are you trying to tell me that Castlewood never told their employees "you're fired!" and instead simply locked them out and refused to say anything to them? If so, then Castlewood may be liable for some damages because the workers could complain they didn't know they were fired and therefore showed up for work but never got paid. However, I assume at some point Castlewood told them the reason they were locked out is because they had been terminated.

Not sure why support of the city council even matters...at the end of the day the club did not negotiate in good faith.
CCC has the equivalent of David Duke and Tom Metzger leading the club down a path of disrepair...love the union or hate it, the current management is doing more to kill the club than the union ever imagined it could do themselves.

Did CCC ever talk to their employees? Yes. They met with them and tried to convince them to vote to decertify their union. They failed.

These are facts. If any Castlewood member disputes them, they are either very uninformed or they are lieing.
