Note how the police are calling out private citizens' license plate numbers. Next they'll try to put gps devices on cars and tax us for doing it. they could use toll road data instead. Don't drive a car myself. Just don't like the idea of Big Brother swooping down on us like this.

What is wrong with the police using license plates to identify a vehicle? Should they pull over every silver Yukon next time and pretend there isn't specific identifying information to make a seperate distinction between all of them?

If you don't mind Big Brother swooping into your everyday life then you probably won't be bothered. Did this in Chicago when I was there with liberal union backing. Just don't like the idea of police tracking of any kind. Even when it was done to Native Americans. There is a principle of freedom involved, and the idea of police being able to track me via license plate number rubs the wrong way. But you're welcome to your opinion. You're probably fine with govt determining legitimacy of abortion, too. When the Constitution gives police the right to track autos then maybe it might be worth reconsidering. Again, you're on your own.

Politics and unions have nothing to do with this. People need to seriously get a grip on these forums. To answer the first poster's question... the baby was tracked to a relative of the suspect/father in the San Lorenzo area. They refused to say how the baby got there and/or where her father was. So baby and mother have been reunited but I believe the father is still on the run and his enabling family is not cooperating with police. I hope they throw the book at that thug. He threatened his daughter's life. Scum like that don't deserve to see the light of day.

Indies both, try teading the article. The child was not in the vehicle; the Pleasanton police "found the unoccupied vehicle." Using plates to track the car is fine, but a GPS wasn't going to find the baby. I'm glad the little girl is safe.

It's just the principle, that's all. Doesn't matter where the baby was found. And, frankly, babies don't rank as high as principles of personal liberty. Just don't like the idea of publicizing license numbers or planting gps devices on private autos. Again, it wasn't the publicized number nor any gps that found the child. When personal liberties are threatened by the state, let's not help it along by letting it publicize and track our cars. Smacks of Big Brother, though don't drive myself, and never double post either.

The point is fundamental enough. If police have to resort to public displayal of private auto owner's license numbers in order to track down a kidnapped kid, the principle of personal liberty is being violated. It's ironic that the state lets women and their doctors kill unborn babies but then goes to such an extent to violate our personal liberties in an effort to locate one child. All at the expense of our right to privacy. File this under Big Brother violates our personal liberty for the sake of one child while thousands of unborn fetuses are murdered every day while the state does nothing.

Some want state imposed GPS tracking devices, which would make it easier to track down stolen vehicles or vehicles used for illegal purposes (kidnapping). But this just shows the Big Brother mentality of leftist koolaid drinkers. Don't kidnap kids myself, nor is much koolaid drunk in our house. Some might like koolaid and the right of the state to install GPS tracking devices in their autos. That's what makes this a free country ... until Big Brother prevails over us all.

Hey Independent Thinker...what you fail to realize is driving is a privilege and not a right....therefor it is impossible to justify your claims. The simple fact is license plates are displayed for the exact reason the PD used them in this case...to track vehicles. Please take a class in common sense before your next post....your embarrassing yourself.
