Livermore’s East Avenue Middle School was locked down for several hours late Wednesday after a 911 call by an adult at the school reported seeing a man with a rifle walking the halls.

Livermore police rushed to the scene with Pleasanton police and the CHP joining in a search of the school buildings and campus. After a thorough three-hour search, no suspects or weapons were found.

Officers responded at around 4 p.m. to the school, located at 3951 East Ave., after receiving a 911 call from an adult at the school who reported seeing a male with a rifle walking in the school’s hallway, police

said.

Most of the students had left for the day but an after-school program was in progress when the school was locked down for a police search.

Police said the students gathered in one room with an adult advisor and police officers. Their parents waited at a nearby shopping center where they were kept apprised of the search, police said.

The students were reunited with their parents about three hours later when no suspect was located and the lock down was ended.

East Avenue was closed to traffic between Jensen Street and Hillcrest Avenue during the search.

  1. We all would applaud the prompt response from all the local law enforcement agencies but after seeing this woman relating her story on the evening news last night something just doesn’t seem “right” with her account.

You can only cry wolf so many times.

  2. Anyone who think a shooting could never happen in our highly rated, parent supported schools in the Tri Valley area is living under a rock. It’s so easy just to walk onto the campuses, especially the high schools. We need to wake up.
