Designer outlets breaking ground on El Charro Road

Original post made on Aug 21, 2011

Ground is being broken next Friday on a 120-store open-style outlet shopping center in west Livermore that will include Barney's New York Outlet, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus Last Call and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH. The center is slated to open in November 2012, and it is expected to bring 2,000 jobs to the area.

Finally, some additional designer shopping without going to SF or Walnut Creek. So long Stoneridge Mall; Livermore has scooped Pleasanton once again!

I'll have to add a room with outlets that close. They better get Stoneridge open for us ! ! !...clock's ticking, tick, tick......
I understand all the spaces have already been leased.

I hope the shopping center has a downtown feel to it and not simply a bunch of in-line stores surrounded by a parking lot with a food court which is so typical of so many outlet centers

Most Pleasantonians may never get to sse it....unless Stoneridge Drive extension gets connected. Surely they'll think of some other reason to delay and deny....staying with the policy of deny the many for special treatment of the few.

Soooooooooooooo how do we get over there? Highway 580? My understanding is that the Stoneridge extension is stuck in the mud because of lawsuits, environmental impact reports, and potential funding issues.

Most pleasantonians may never get to see it? How do we get there?, are you serious.. have you never left your block? There *are* other roads in this city that connect to other places, you know. I assume this is just a passive-aggressive grumble on the state of the stoneridge extension but believe me, there are at least 2 existing ways to get there from p-town and I'm also sure that 1) yes, it will NOT look like a downtown feel and will be a boring strip outlet mall like all others and 2) it will be jam-packed with thousands of cars every day by people who manage to find it 'somehow'.

very odd but it does explains why some other cities of this class are what they are.

I'm glad that at last we have an outlet center near us. No longer do we have to go to Gilroy or Vacaville!! And 2,000 more jobs can't hurt either. I can't wait!!

Odd-size and color leftovers from last season's collection with a few quality-control rejects thrown in and sold for a neat profit.

It's an outstanding way for brands to tap a different segment of the market without alienating their primary target market and a great way to keep the economy moving.

I heard there were protesters near the new outlets location this morning. Anyone know what they were protesting? Thanks.
