The parents of a Danville girl believed to have jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge last week will hold a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. today at the Community Presbyterian Church in Danville.

The family also thanked the hundreds of volunteers who have helped search for Allison “Alliy” Bayliss, 15, after she was reported missing last Monday. Officials uncovered evidence the next day indicating she had jumped from the bridge in an apparent suicide.

“The tremendous support and love shown for Alliy has been overwhelming,” her family said in a statement. “We are grateful beyond words for the outpouring of concern, care and community that makes this place we live so special.”

“Alliy was a caring and compassionate young woman and an avid learner who was always interested in helping others,” the family said.

Allison was a sophomore at San Ramon Valley High School, school district spokeswoman Terry Koehne said. She was a member of the junior varsity swim team and a very good student academically, he said.

Those attending this afternoon’s service are asked to wear blue and bring photos of Allison or other memorabilia to add to the family scrapbook. The church is located at 222 West El Pintado Road in Danville.

In addition to today’s celebration, an “Allison Bayliss Donation Fund Account” has been established to further her interests. Donations can be made to any Wells Fargo bank.

Also, expressions of sympathy can be delivered to the Danville Police Department at: Bayliss Family, c/o Danville Police Department, 510 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA 94526.

  1. I keep asking myself Why? This is the ultimate tragedy; a child dying. I have 3 teenage daughters and I know how “rough” life can be for teenagers. My heart and prayers go out to this family. I am so very sorry for your loss.

  2. I have suffered from suicidal depression for most of my life, and there but for the grace of God go I. When a person is in those depths of pain and despair they cannot be reached and they actually believe the world is better off without them. Having survived suicide attempts, and gotten the appropriate medicines, I know that it gets better. I have to say that if I had been able to jump off a bridge when I was her age, I would have done it. I have to stress, however, that it would have been MY choice and there would be no blame for my friends and family. I hope her parents and friends realize that she made this decision in a moment of blackness, and there was NOTHING they could have done to stop her once the decision was made. I, too, mourn your loss.

This is one more tragedy that could have been prevented by a suicide barrier on the bridge.

  3. Poor girl. I knew she was despondent over what Obama has done to this country but she didn’t have to kill herself. Guess people will do anything to get away fromthe Libs.
