Buchanan talks budget to voters

Original post made on Mar 17, 2011

While State Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan (D., Alamo) focused on the overall state budget situation and Gov. Jerry Brown's combination of budget cuts and tax extensions, many attending her open house Saturday were more concerned about his plan to end local redevelopment funds.

Well first I like Joan-- voted for her when she was on the SRV School District Board, voted for her when she ran for her present positon-- lost a lot of faith when she tried to get elected to the House of Reps after six months in office but that is another story. What is bothersome to me is that rather than use the required axe to cut the budget she wants to do what Brown is doing -- use a small paring knife that will truly not attack the over spending bloated run away servces first mentality of the State government. There is nothing in Brown's program that reduces the cost of government, nothing done to address state workers inflated and gold plated pensions, nothing that reduces the prision guard unions rip off of taxpayers, and nothing to decrease what has been and continues to be a free lunch for that portion of our populace who does not think working is a respectable notion. So I say Joan-- get with the program--come up with cuts that make sense--we don't need 3 unionized prison guards for each comotose inmate patient in an ICU, we don't need three or four levels of management in schools, in CalTrans or in any agency. We don't need duplicative agencies telling people how to run buisnesses. And we realy do not need more taxes until the State learns how to operate on what it "takes" from us already.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
