The Pacific Justice Institute has filed an amicus brief with the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in support of Prop. 8, the law that bans same sex marriage in California.

The opinion by Federal District Judge Vaughn Walker striking down Prop. 8 claimed that it was irrational for voters to affirm traditional marriage, the PJI contends.

“The brief filed by PJI argues that Western civilization has always encouraged traditional marriage as foundational to society,” said PJI President Brad Dacus. “While homosexuality was widely practiced in ancient Greece and Rome, the brief shows that leading thinkers of the time strongly supported traditional marriage.”

PJI Chief Counsel Kevin Snider, who authored the brief, commented, “By calling support for traditional marriage norms irrational, Judge Walker has not only insulted the majority of Californians and Americans, but also some of the greatest minds in history, including Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and Cicero. Calling these luminaries irrational is itself irrational.”

Added Dacus: “The more we analyze the full implications of Judge Walker’s Prop. 8 decision, the more apparent it becomes that we are fighting for the soul of Western civilization.”

“Man-woman marriage is not just a religious or Judeo-Christian ideal,” he said. “It has been affirmed by all cultures in every part of the world for all of recorded history.”

  1. Good for Pacific Justice Institute.

I posted this comment in Crimes and Incidents because what the opponents of Prop. 8 are attempting to do, is a crime!

Now.. stand back and watch the loonies try to argue that what God intended isn’t important. It’s what they want that matters.
