Help, I am remodeling my kitchen.

Original post made by Diana, Vineyard Hills, on Jul 27, 2010

I would like to remodel my kitchen and a bathroom. Can anyone recomend a contractor or shop? Has anyone used Home Depot or Lowes services? Does anyone want to give me any tips or product suggestions? Does anyone have any cost saving online resources.

Hi diana,

Home Depot and Lowes are viable options. You can also try using http://www.calfinder.com which provides contractors in your area as well as free estimates.

Good luck!

Diana,

We just spent 3+ months living with copious amounts of drywall dust, masses of construction workers coming & going at all hours of the day, eating more take out food & BBQ than a normal person should be subjected to & hand cramps from writing so many d*&% checks! But it was all worth it.

I also just spent the last day or two Yelping about the various contractors, suppliers & vendors that helped or made my life a living hell. Feel free to check out some of my "reviews" on Yelp for Home Despot, sorry Depot. Bay Area Windows, Arc N' Spark Electric & Siena Tile & Stone. There's some other one's in there & you'll figure out which ones were ours.

Good luck, check references, insurance & contractors licenses & if the budget goes a little over, don't sweat it.

I would suggest giving Jerry McNerney's office a call. If Pleasanton is lucky, he'll be looking for work next November.

Diana,

If you have time, visit the street fair in downtown next Wednesday. They have dozens of booths with contractors, indoor design, windows, granite, etc. Not that they are that fun to look at if you don't need one... but this might be a good place for you to see some of their stuff, talk to the actual owners and maybe walk away with a deal, as some of them offer deals to event-comers.

Hello,
We have used SOSA Marble and Granite from Livermore for 2 of our kitchens. We are very happy with the results and service received from them. Their prices are a bit higher than some of the others we checked out, but they do great work and their employees are very professional.

Brents Custom Cabinets in Fremont is absolutely the best. He is a custom cabinet designer and his work is incredible. He is reasonably priced and you should at least have him over for design ideas. I'm sure he can recommend contractors to make the whole thing come together.
If you want cookie cutter cabinets with no design style Home Depot or Lowes will do it for you. Just order the sizes you need.
If you want something that you will love forever give this guy a call.
His shop is on Osgood in Fremont. At least go in and see some of his work. You will be highly impressed.
Needless to say we were more than pleased!!

Best contractor I've ever worked with. Prices will not be the cheapest but you will never get nailed with epidemic change orders which raise bids of most other contractors. He is accurate about costs, on time always and the job site is cleaned up every day. Highly recommended! Have used this contractor for everything (small jobs and large)since 1998.

My only experience did not involve a complete remodel but I did use a local contractor for some work. Never, ever again. His crew was late, they left a mess, he did not return phone calls and I had to hire someone else to redo the job to get it right. Morganroth you should have your contractor's license revoked.

If you want to help hometown businesses I would recommend Valley Plumbing Home Center on Rose Ave in Pleasanton. They have done my kitchen and bathrooms and I am very happy. They will bed over backwards to get things to your satisfaction. 925-462-1639

for Tango: I had the line from my meter to my house replaced many years ago. Although I have had Valley Plumbing do work before, and it was fine, their bid was more than FOUR TIMES the cost of any of the other three that bid on the job. I can't remember now who did it but the job was done the very next day and it has been fine for all of these years. Supporting downtown businesses is one thing but at four times the cost I cannot justify that.

I am the Owner of Valley Plumbing and if we were four times higher than someone else there must have been a good reason for it. Our rates for standard service and repair are $124.50 by the hr. After the 1st hr it brakes down by the 1/4 hr. Call around and ask for the others labor rates and most won't answer the phone. The ones that do won't give a price until their high pressure sales person, on 25 to 35% commission is at your door. Give us a call and see what 28 yrs in business has to offer from your local team with our long standing employees of 10yrs plus can offer. If your looking to do a remodel we give free estimates and will walk you through the steps of all that is needed. We can give you bids to supply the material or give you the best suggestions as were to go for the best pricing and we can install it for you. We are here, and plan to be here for a long time, too help you make your home the best it can be and try to stay with in your budget. Give us a call or just come by the store and take a look around to see what we have to offer. We are the "Best Plumber" as voted by the Pleas. Weekly readers. That has mean a little something wouldn't you say.
